How to get 3000 responses

    Hi there!

I'm running a survey for my master thesis
that investigates online community user motivation.

    I've started that yesterday,
and even got a sweepstake with $4,500 in sponsored prizes

After about 12 hours I got 59 responses.

I need an overall of 3000 responses in the survey,
which is only a mere 10% of all the DP members.

The prizes are text links and presell pages, something
AT LEAST 10% of EVERY DP user can use

What do you suggest to improve the response rate?

Shawn / DP didn't support an "invitation" via email or PM,
(as this might easily be id'ed as spam)
so I'm solely based on promiting this via DP

Also I cannot promote this survey via SEO from other places,
because I only may have DP users in the sample.

    Your Thoughts?
    Your Suggestions?

    thanks in advance,
    Christoph

I think 3000 is too much..
There might not be so many active users here..
    Any way, you can wait.

Whats the dead end for your survey ? Whats the last date for your thesis to be submitted ?

    Best of Luck.

last submit date is in July, but I need to have the 3000 in 2-3 weeks to make sure I can evaluate & process the results and can run the survey in the 2nd big webmaster community

I think this post is a pretty good start, Although I think you need to make a post announcing this and list what prizes are offered.

Show some worth for doing th survey etc.

Well, that's one more on your list!

It might be useful to tell people how long it takes, no.of, and type of questions in the survey.

For info it took me less than 5 minutes to complete.

Yes, that was a quick survey. I think your ad up in the google box at the top of the site is working, as that's how I found the survey.

I already got the survey link on 50,000 posts ... while it might help a bit, the ROI is no really there compared to adwords

    - I spent roughly $500 on 50k post sigs ,
    - in addition to $500 on CPM google ads up there

Even tough $1k ad spent and $4,5k in link prizes I got only
    200 entries in 4 days..

    that's a whopping $5 for a survey with 25 nice questions where people can win $4500 !!

    for more see http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=3111008&postcount=95

I cannot afford to compete against PPP up there,
nor can I pay the rates for more sigs - competing with commercially interests

I need help from cool people like "Hecky" who donated his sig for free.. ANYONE ELSE?

I think the real active member might be only about 2,665. as you can count how many people online on the forum at the specific time of the day. XD

    well, NO

Just because there are no more that 2600 members online at once, or at the same day, doesn't mean they are inactive users...

sometimes I havent logged into the forum for 1-2 weeks... I'm sure there have been times where I was so busy I haven't logged in for a month

that's why a mail notification to those users would have been the best solution... but Shawn thought that's too spamy... :-(

hmmm.. for some reason the cost per conversion has more than trippled today... not even 300 entrants and already slowing down so much
