I know there are a bunch of people on this board that are in different countries (rather than the US), and I saw one person that is in New Zealand. So my question is what are the major differences, compared to the US. We've (my wife and I) done some research in the past weeks about NZ and are interested in the Northland area. We've seen mostly tourist sites, so I know it can be slightly bias, but at the same time it seems to be quite nice there. We are wondering about little things as well as big things, like power sockets, can we transport our PC's with us, and will we just need a different power cord? I don't want to buy a bunch of adapters. If we move there our cats will come too, but it looks like they say you have to get them microchipped (not to stoked on that idea) and a rabies vaccination (or that). How are the Internet speeds there? We currently have a cable ISP which offers 4M down/ 384Kb up. For I think US$30 a month. Is this comperable? Anyone know these answers, or where I can find them? TIA, - Sean
If you have lots of money living in Cleveland can be great. Same thing with anywhere else, got big money then NZ can be great also. Life is much better if you can buy a snowmobile if you live in Iceland.
It is also greener if you can buy lots of sod and Scott's Turf Builder, ever go to the golf course, they pay big bucks to keep the grass green. Hope you are doing all right Debunked, get that job yet?
what job? I just mentioned getting a job in the evenings to help keep the kids fed (6 of them) My wife homeschools and we have a 2 month old baby so it will have to be evening and saturday to be of any use. I still am not looking but it is an option I may have to take on. I have a site to build for my dad who is in real estate so that should help for this month. p.s. Anthony I love the come back on the greener grass problem. I try not to think of the grass being greener on the other side, because once you get there you find the weeds are also greener. LOL
OK well now that we've established that money can give you a great life. I don't want to be in the US for too much longer, but I got school to finish, about a year, and within that time I'd like to visit and learn about NZ as much as I can. We're looking into being more self sustanable in a mostly summer environment (no cold Canada), but those aren't our only concerns, and New Zealand sounds pretty nice so far. Good weather, good public health system, not over crowded, seems to have good education system, spends a lot less on military budget, looks like a good public transportation system in the cities, etc. Anyone else have suggestions if New Zealand isn't your forte?
