My website www.travel-rants.com is finally out of the black hole, sandpit, mud slide or whatever else you want to call it. It's taken me 11 months for me to start to rank for any sort of keyword in Google. http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=travel+rants&meta= Hopefully I can start to bring in some traffic and earn some ££££! For those whose site is in the sandpit, black hole etc. be patient, just work on building quality content, building links and eventually you'll get there - patience pays! Darren
But let me guess.... you only rank for your domain??? We have a site that is ouit for the domain but not the other Kw's we optimized for. THe other KW's are much easier that the actual domain name but the google filter only seems to let the domain name out first.
Well, 90% of the keywords I am optimising the website for are VERY competitive keywords (1mil+ results) i.e. travel news, so I'm not expecting a high ranking site just yet! Even so, the doesn't just rank for it's name, but other keywords like E111 form, Submit your travel article, none are highly competitive, but compared to this time last week, where couldn't even rank for our business name. One of my sites ranked for its domain keywords within 1 week after the launch. So that's not much to write home about
Having no ranking in SE and then having a few for keywords, no matter how obscure is pretty exciting. One of my sites is also slowly busy clawing its way up out of the sandbox after a domain change. I just hope it doesn't disappear again.
While you are in the sandbox you can still rank for keywords that have very low competition which I am assuming you domain name is. Not saying that you are not out just saying its a possiblity. I launched the gaming site in my sig and have been on 1st page since its launched for the url name (with a space in between words). So theres no telling until you start ranking for more competitive words really.
Thanks! My hope is restored I'm in the sandpit now since march - at times i just want to give up-but i know that its not an option...got to keep going, right? Good Luck! Again Thanks for giving the rest of us in the pit, the added HOPE INSPIRATION !
My first site took about 6 months to come about but by the time I launched no 2,3 and 4, I was more adept and got the keywords listing more quickly. Anand
