I have heard a lot about the internet fraud but have never been burnt before. Till now. Well, shit happens ...

I've purchased this http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=304576 (EDIT:link fixed), sent the money and received .... poor communication, lame excuses and in the end ... nothing! I don't have the site and I don't have the domain.

Ah.. and the site is selling again, this time at SEDO - http://www.sedo.com/auction/auction_detail.php?language=us&auction_id=9318&tracked=&partnerid=

What do you do guys to avoid scam? Do you use escrow.com? I have never thought to use it for small payments <$1K, but I now I have to re-think that.

    Cheers,
    mkassets

paypal refused me under same circumstances as domain and site is classed as virtual goods..but then did chargeback on my credit card that was held on paypal account...chargeback was successful. If paypal takes money from your bank account forget it ...no protection

cancel your DD with your bank so paypal cannot take the money,

I totally disagree with this virtual goods thing paypal decided to throw in your face,

Yes a domain is vertual goods but maybe they should verify you now have it by having the domain in your paypal registered address / name etc..

I know not totally secure but better than just saying no sorry no protection.

    Thanks all for advice.

I paid out of my PayPal balance, so that credit card chargeback is not an option. I reported this case to PayPal.

The fact that the guy is selling again on SEDO clearly indicates that he still controls the site and I should get the refund. Not sure PayPal will bother to get into these details.

it is best to use getafreelancer to hire services tho i think in ure case it was the domain instead...well sad to hear tho...

so many scams on internet and i hate paypal even tho i use it..my friend lost 600$ for a alienware laptop he bought on ebay for which the shipment was never sent..a claim with paypal returend only 150$ coz that was the max balane in the sellers account..then what does this full protection means! paypal sucks tho i use it a lot..no option on ebay else...

    An update:

Just now received a paypal final decision with regard to my complaint. It took them that much time to "investigate" the case just to come back with the following answer

"PayPal was not able to resolve this case because the item in question was
virtual or intangible. Please be aware that PayPals Buyer Complaint policy
applies only to tangible, physical goods that can be posted. We are not
able to adequately investigate payments for intangible items, services,
    licences or other digital content."

Think twice before using them for online transactions .....
