Someone recently said to me to forget about page rank and keep focusing on links. Well here's why that is a load of rubbish. A page rank zero site CANNOT out rank page ranked websites in the SERPS for a competitive term. End of story. A page rank update is needed in order for those hard earned back links to take effect and allow the site to move up the SERPS. So to all those people out there advising the above, please note that PR is IMPORTANT
PR is completely worthless in terms of SERPs. I don't know where you got that from, but your info is completely wrong..
The initial poster got it wrong. That said, pr is still a major part of the google algo. But it is not the be all and end all of it.
Heres just one small example for you on a new site that I did (not sure why I made it, but I did). Its for the game Lord of the Rings Online, better known as LOTRO http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&rlz=1I7GGIH&q=lotro My site ranks 4-5 depending on the datacenter. Ohh and its a PR0. The keywords isnt competitive yet but the point is I outrank sites with PR. It goes the same for competitive terms.
pr is not important in SERP, i have a new anime site but already established on some competitive keywords page 1 to page 2 on google.
ok guys (re aaron adn elio3) i recognise both of your names and do not wish to get into a symantical debate but are either of you saying that page rank no longer plays a part of googles algo? I doubt it. What we all agree on is that trust has become an overriding issue and google does not export that to the toolbar!
Im not saying that. Im sure it does play a role in the SERPs. What I was responding to was this point. Which is completely false.
i agree. we all have examples of sites with lower pr higher in the SERPs than competing sites with higher pr.
PR 0 site can beat PR7 or PR8 site. Google lists sites in SERPS by relevancy (well, this is what they say...). Some time ago one could build a good PR with many backlinkslinks regardless of their quality or relevance. PR algorhytm might change lately...
PR is not important for serps, my blog has PR0 (more than 2 months old), but I still get 50-60 visitors from Google every day. I have pages that rank quite high for various search terms beating PR 5-6 sites.
as they said it's just a PART of algo not all to decide the ranking. like my site PR3 still beat some PR site but for some keywords i was even beaten by non-related site with lower PR.... sometime i dont understand G...at all...
PR is useless, but backlinks are essential. But if you're having a directory that sell links, PR is essential.
well it doesnt matter it help google sherp or not, but 90% webmaster really care about their website page rank.
