You want free .EDU and .GOv links? Heres how I used to do it...

Keep in mind, this is not 'white hat'. I consider it to be grey, but some would consider it to be blackhat. It really all depends on how you go about it IMO.

I'm sure you all know about wiki's, right? You know, wikipedia.com and such.
Well, many colleges have wiki's setup on their domains. But some have a different type of wiki called a kwiki. Basically it's just like a wiki.

You can go to these wiki's and create your own page and save it. Be sure you save it as something BESIDES 'new page' or it will replace the homepage. Some of them may get deleted, most wont. Simply take an article about your niche and paste it into the new page, put a link pointing back to your site at the bottom and save it. That's it, you now have a page on a .edu domain pointing at your site.

I recommend you do not delete existing pages on the wiki or deface any existing pages. There could be legal issues and it certainly will fall into the blackhat area if you do this. It's bad enough you're using their domain without permission, at least try and fly under the radar, you know?

This will help you get started: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=kwiki+inurl:edu

NOTE: Not all of the kwiki's can be edited. Some have security, you will have to move past the first page of the SERPS.
    Good luck! :D

    No problem.
I see tons of people viewing this thread but nobody is saying anything. Did my post help you or did you already know this trick?

Quality post to be sure. Also worth trying to get those .edu and .gov links is participating on .edu and .gov blogs and forums [key phrase is participating]. College and university crowds do not tollerate spam, but if you can meaningfully contribute to the discussion [do some quality research before posting] and are able to be discrete with your signature content then you can get some .edu links with this method as well.

Again, nice suggestion about the wikis.

    All the best...

I have done this, but was not aware of kwiki. Can you expand on the differences? I thought you could create a new page on any wiki. You can on wikipedia.org.

Yea but usually wiki's are watched over much more than kwiki's. Not sure why...

Does google really value being linked by .edu highly? Is this a fact?
