According to an article (http://www.webpronews.com/insiderreports/2005/12/29/men-are-from-google-women-are-from-yahoo) by Jason Lee Miller of WebPro News: for the searches done over the internet, the maximum portion of the Female population use Yahoo for search, while the males prefer Google for searches. In the article, Jason points out some interesting facts supporting this hypothesis. About men, he states: Men tend to see it as an office, a library, or a playground--screw the community, this is about function not family. Men tend to be more intense Internet users than women, being more likely to go online daily (61% of men and 57% of women) and more likely to go online several times a day (44% of men and 39% of women). About women, he states: The report found that women are more enthusiastic communicators, using email in a more robust way. Not only sending and receiving more email than men, women are more likely to write to family and friends about a variety of topics, sharing news, joys and worries, planning events, and forwarding jokes and stories. While both sexes equally appreciate the efficiency and convenience of email, women are more likely than men to value the medium for its positive effects on improving relationships, expanding networks, and encouraging teamwork at the office. "Women also value email for a kind of positive, water-cooler effect, which lightens the atmosphere of office life," reads the 54-page report (http://www.pewinternet.org/pdfs/PIP_Women_and_Men_online.pdf). The report found that women are more likely to use the Internet for emailing, getting maps and directions (after all, we men always know where we're going), looking for health and medical information, seeking support for health and personal problems, and getting religious information. This is just a Hypothesis. The actual scenario may be different. Do you support this hypothesis?
The demographics of a poll always vary. I'm not really a webmaster, but I am female and I do prefer Google. As for this quote: The report found that women are more enthusiastic communicators, using email in a more robust way. Not only sending and receiving more email than men, women are more likely to write to family and friends about a variety of topics, sharing news, joys and worries, planning events, and forwarding jokes and stories. I personally do like engaging in community sites. That's why I'm active on Facebook, Flickr, Twitter, del.icio.us, and Digg, among other sites. Do I need Yahoo to help me achieve that goal? No.
Statistically no online poll like this one would be valid anyways because there is not statistically valid random sampling. It's just taken by who ever feels like taking it.
This post got related to a post on digg http://digg.com/tech_news/Men_are_from_Google_women_are_from_Yahoo http://www.seroundtable.com/archives/013134.html
Well, Lets take it from a diffrent point of view: Google gets most searches in its engine per day/week/month/Any period The majority of the world population is MEN* Make 1 PLUS 1 and count the result *Couse men live less than women "Well, well someone made his HOMEWORK" Thank teach...
From my experience: I am a male and use google. But my aunt and girlfriend use yahoo. So the hypothesis suit to me.
This topic got Dugg and got to the front page. Apparently this topic is a 'study at DigitalPoint forums'. With 36 voters.
I hardly ever use yahoo. I do like to read their movie reviews occasionally, but I never really use their search engine. I'm not real certain it has anything to do with my gender. But if it does, will I meet more girls if I use yahoo as my search engine?
so far from the poll it looks like this hypothesis isn't so good (though as said above, the results cant be taken too seriously because of invalid sampling). the only interestin thing i did seem to notice is that we have atleast 1 'girlie man'. otherwise im not sure bout this hypothesis
it's an intresting poll. my vote goes to first option in fact most of the clever people are using google to search the internet
If you are clever, you use Google Suggest. It figures out what you want while you are typing and knows how to spell better than you do.
From a webmaster's perspective, I have found that Yahoo visitors click on ads more than Google visitors. I actually work more on getting Yahoo SERPs for some of my websites than I do for Google. As noted, a majority of those sites are more on female friendly sites though I do ok with Yahoo traffic for wrestling.
i use both. Usually i use Google, but when i'm reading my emails (yahoo mail), if i have to search something i use the page i'm in (Yahoo). Dorothy
wow we have a lots of female webmaster here in DP. when i first read your poll, i thought you said "I'm a male and I'm seeking for female on google"
