Hey guys, just wondering, any of you post links on Craigslist? Is it a good idea or no? I know the listings expire after 45 days or so...
I have not had much success selling products on CraigsList, but it's good for employment and services leads.
Selling or not is besides the point. I am talking about the link building aspect. Come on, get with the program here just kidding
Dont they delete your postings after a while ( free ones ) ?? i once done a couple of hundred submissions for a client .. i remember something like that ..
Yea, they do delete them after 45 days or so. Does that mean the links on there probably aren't too useful?
Craigslist offer a good amount of traffic. Though the listings have a definite expiration, you can have a decent amount of visitors from a single ad. I have seen ads generates thousands of uniques from an hour of placement. Also, it is good for indexing as the SEs.But you need to submit the ad to the right category, avoid duplicate titles etc else it will be flagged by the admin or the community. There are ways to carry out the ad placement.
Not really a category for SEO though. At least I couldn't find one for advertising my services. I'm sure it works well for employment opportunities and other "products".
I've seen great results. Just like you optimize your website, you need to optimize your ad from the title to the content. I got an ad listed in the top 10 of Google for a competitive keyword within 24 hours! Some CL categories allow ads for 45 days while others last only 7 days. Google loves CL!
It is a good idea to post ads on craigslist because it can boost traffic for the site. But they are strict in posting the ads and they dont want spamming because it is easily deleted.
I would think that it's a well spidered website, even deeply. So a link in 45 days would most likely be picked up, not to mention the possible traffic. As it seams, it's a good idea. Obviously I would never endorse spammy posts, and I would hope they are filtered in some way.
If you post links in the Craigslist community - you have chance of bringing in traffic because those posts do not expire. BUT, CLers hate spams or advertising and if they find you doing either one - which I am sure they will - you will be banned. If you post links in a classified posting - they will be gone in 45 days.
I do 50 - 100 Craigslist ads a month, the words that I use for the text do not seem to show in the Google tools as link text for my site, and the links seldom show in the links to my site (I'm not talking about the Link: operator, but the one in Google tools that is far more complete). So, in my opinion Craigslist gives you little to no link value. However it with some categories it works very well for advertisement.
haha ha!!...used a url forwarding since they blacklisted the domain name. tried using {dot } com and automatic deletion...now it's working. for now though.... I guess the services area will become a paid category like job job postings.
It could be considered spamming, depending on a lot of things, so don't go too far. But if you put it in the appropriate category, and don't duplicate it everywhere, that's generally what CL is there for. Keep in mind your link will go in a page with its own URL, a PR of 0, and may or may not get any traffic. I don't think there will be much SEO benefit, but if there is, it will evaporate once the search engines try to recrawl the page on Craigslist and get a 404 ... when your link vanishes. On the other hand, "link baiting" seems to work pretty well. I wrote an article that got picked up by the Great Library and Life Hacker. These are both low quality links as well, but they've both sent a bit of traffic, and better, someone else made both of them. Even if the Craigslist ad only takes five or ten minutes of your time, it won't give you a lasting benefit. You could submit to a directory or two in that time, or work on an article. But if you're trying to advertise something and not looking for SEO benefit, then you might be happier with what you get back for your time.
craigslist's a pretty strict site; they clean up adverts and spam very religiously. but in terms of traffic, they're great.
