My host offers free installs of various scripts which will save me loads of time on downloads (I am in the middle of nowhere on dialup) so I'd like to go with one of the two forums they are offering me, which is currently SMF or phpBB.

I currently have a different forum (vB) and am used to it's interface as both a member and Admin. I have used IPB but rather dislike it (as both user and admin) so if either is more like IPB, I'd just assume go with the other...I'd love to just go with vB, but I just can not afford it at this time.

Aside from that though I do wonder which is better overall. I'm currently not worried about SEOing this particular forum, as it will be for the better part small, though I do have an interest in security, performance, and how friendly it is to both the user and admin. I'm also concerned about SPAM, as even tiny forums can suffer from that.

So I ask for your overall opinions on which is better.

yay, another "Which is better" thread :D
Said it many times on this forum before.
I think SMF is the best ;)

And now Dojo will come along and say it's phpBB ;)

Out of those two, I'd have to say SMF, although I haven't really used the admin panel much

I actually looked for an existing one for these two and all I found was one over a year old (so it was comparing OLD versions for each). I was hoping with the newer versions maybe things would have changed, though it's really looking like you are correct ;)

    _________

Can anyone give a few pro's & cons of each? Or at least opinions as to why one is better then the other?

You should update the article...ir may pull in a few more readers, especially if it gets linked to more of these "vs" threads.

    Thanks for the read
