Selling domain names

I have a few domain names sitting and wasting opportunities  you know the sort of thing, great business idea (IMO) and no time or resources to implement it as well as would be needed.

Where would you folk recommend trying to sell them off? I looked at ebay, but since most of the ones I saw were clearly spam or www.amateursexypics.com type domains, I doubt anyone would seriously look there.

There are a few coms and co.uks, most are a bit specialist (selfhypnotism.co.uk for example) some broader (book-circle.com and others)

Any pointers would be most greatfully received.

I think www.buydomains.com is pretty respectable. Im sure they have a service that allows them to act as a broker for your site. We just bought a domain off of them for about $1500. Only took 24 hours to transfer ownership to us after the sale.

You might also try Sedo or AfterNic.

I listed military-science.com on Sedo, but have not sold it yet.

    Thanks dj,,,
They don't seem to act as brokers more as simple hosts of your ad... problem is they only do it for .com, .net and .org... I have a few co.uks. I'm not entirely sure how they get to email you either, since all they require one to do to get a free listing is point your dns to the name servers. Still, it's free and I'm curious  I'll probably try them for the two .coms

    Cheers Will

Their minimum commission is probably more than I can realistically expect to make from some of the names... I might try one or two at a reasonable price though... to be fair I'd be happy to auction them and get back some of what I paid (though I'd want to break even on a couple ) as I am not an overly wealthy man (yet) and just want to focus my attentions on fewer projects

Why don't you place a post in the Buy Sell section of this forum? Someone might see something that interests them. It's free, and it works - I bought 2 domains through it.

any idea what you get paid from the companies? for example, if the domain sells for 1500, how much do you get?

Afternic takes 10% (minimum $60) and SEDO 10% (minimum $50) for each domain they sell.

If you have some really good ones you could also try GreatDomains.com (10%, mimimum $100), but they don't list domains unless they think that they are worth $5000+ .....

But you may need to be REAL patient if you are going to list you domains there (unless they are very good and popular)

Buydomains.com have several good domains, but I believe that many of their domains is seriously overpriced (the same with greatdomains.com)....

I'm always interested in buying domain names (look at my singature :) ) so you can PM them to me and I'll look at them and see if I may be interested.
Or I can give you a couple of tips how to sell them if you are interested..

    minimum $60?

I suppose if you have a less-usful domain name you won't be able to get much out of it. military-science.com sounds pretty official, but someone could always just change it around in lieu of forking over so much cash.

I sold some domain names using Sedo and everything worked without any problems.

Normally I look at AdWords for the specific Keyword and email the publishers. If there are no AdWords for the keyword of your domain name, then you are most likely not to get any revenue of it.
You could also post your domain name at dnforum.com or domainstate.com and ask for an evaluation.

I think he just meant that on eBay you find a lot of domains like yours, a bit 'grey area' (not based on your sites content, I didn't look). That's only judging on the domain name itself. So I think he reckons eBay is not the best place to sell family friendly domain names since looking at the supply there it probbably attracts the wrong bunch of domain buyers.

    Hello,

You can also use wulux.com website to sell domain names. You can buy some good premium domain names from here too.
