Sites for Sale DMOZ Listed ? - ADVICE

I would sincerely advice everybody selling sites that are listed in DMOZ.

    1. When you have a site for sale, and it's listed in DMOZ, do not disclose the URL in public forums. Have the people who are interested PM you and then you can reply them if you are interested.

I have a reason to say that, I bought a website from another webmaster forum and the site was listed in dmoz. Since I bought the website, I have been removed from dmoz. I emailed the editor of the category, and he replied

"Since you recently bought the website and dmoz was one of the selling points, I decided to remove your website".

I have bought dozens of websites, and this obviously happened with one of my websites, but I would like to help other buyers and sellers to be cautious. Keep your websites secret from spying dmoz editors.

Obviously, the dmoz editor, if a member of the forum (which is very much possible), could email you or pm you for the URL and you as a prospective seller would pm back, little do you know your site is gone from dmoz.

Just a precaution, I would recommend to fellow dp'ers.

Ouch that just sucks big time, what a lame excuse for removing the site from dmoz, obviously not content/site related just a flexing of power/muscle from a questionable individual.

A site would SHOULD NOT be removed for that reason. That is, or is very close to inappropriate abuse. Please report this at:

it's fair enough to remove it if you changed the content of the site so that it no longer fitted in the category.

That's a good point. I've heard that there's a real problem in the ODP with the domains that expire, then some sicko pornster or something like that gets the drop and then you get a really nasty site in a clean category. What this editor did might have been a perversion of the effort to keep categories clean of this type of abuse.

There is a problem in the dmoz full stop.
It's in an influential position within the webmastering community and accept little or no critism of it's operations or editors. Note, it's not all editors that are bad just the few tarnishing the name of the rest (imho).

thats a shoddy reason. I thought dmoz was about the quality of the site. I would complain about the editor.
