New Type of Google Ads: Pay Per Action - good or bad for adsense earnings?

Hey All,

One of the newsletters I subscribe to mentioned that Google is testing new ad types -- "Google's Pay-Per-Action program in beta test..."

CPA = cost per action - be it a lead or a sale.

As an advertiser using Adwords this could be a good thing, but as someone that makes a nice living of adsense my first reaction is eeek!

Also, there is [supposedly] a new inline ad for adsense (beta) - my guess is like Kontera / IntelliText

Has anyone seen or tested these new types of ads?

Steve

I can't see google using inline ads.
They've stayed away from anything user-unfriendly so far (Pop ups for example), why should they start now?
Maybe its just me , but I get very annoyed at those inline links..

I share your pain. I hate them as well, annoying and sometimes block out parts of the text until you manually do something. I sometimes skim-read using my mouse cursor and when I run it over one of those it blocks...hate them.

Accorting to Techcrunch, they might try a mixture of CPA and cpc in time to come, depending on the success of CPA.

Will publishers be able to choose whether CPA or CPC ads get displayed? If they force you to take CPAs there are going be a lot of angry publishers! I can see why advertisers would want it though - Adsense conversions can be pretty low.

I believe that you will be able to choose only CPA ads to be shown, so you will be able to have one unit be CPA while the others be only CPC if you wish and even others be CPM.

Traditional CPA companies like Azoogleads, MaxBounty, Clickbank etc. are going to serious competitions from Google.

Google can expect good competition from others. But, of course they can become the leaders quickely.

From what I've read, publishers can in fact choose which type of ad to run (CPM or CPC).

My favorite feature is the ability to simply specify keywords for the CPA ad unit, and G will show the best performing ads. Takes a lot of the CPA burden off publisher's shoulders of having to stay on top of the latest and greatest offers in their niche.

I applied but still waiting...

You will get paid if a user buys a product form the advertiser (that's called an action by the user). You will no longer be paid for clicks. It's the same as those lame referrals that don't work. That SUX but I have always contended that Adsense doesn't care about the little guys (publishers).

I think it'll all work out OK. Advertisers are going to pay way more for CPA, so I guess earnings will work out about the same overall, unless at the moment you're tricking people into clicking...

My main concern? I hope there's a good method to measure when an 'action' occurs, because I don't always trust affiliate companies and their reporting systems, and there's a big incentive for 'advertiser fraud' to replace click fraud.

To have a choice between CPC and CPA on your site would be a good thing. Well worth testing at least - at the moment I have no idea how many of the clicks from my site 'convert' for advertisers.

The main reason why i like adsense is because i dont need to worry about anyone buying anything, in fact i dont care what the visitor did after he clicked teh ad and all i need to do is make him click by optimizing teh ads, blending them in, etc.

CPA will be yet another model of amazon or ebay ads, or CJ, Azoogle, or whatever...

I wondering what is going to happen to programs like Kontera when CPA link units are introduced - will Kontera and companies like it be made against Google's TOS again?

well do I need to fill a seperate form to display those CPA ads
I fear only highly targeted traffic will convert given they click on a ad though
