Content is King, So Here's a Quick Tip to Writing More Content

Do you produce enough content? That's my biggest problem as an internet marketer.

I have a problem updating my sites. I get lazy. Or I get caught up on link building, seo, and other things.

However, I'm realizing more and more that lots of good unique content is foundation of good internet marketing.

Today I just randomly thought of a way to get motivated to write more content.

    It's all about setting goals.

I believe in the power of setting goals. And even better is writing down those goals.

So, I put a document on my desktop called "Daily Word Count (2000 words daily)".

Daily I'll copy and paste all the words I write on the document. My goal is to reach 2000 words every day. It should help me stay motivated if I have a running word count.

Also, I should be more focused since I have a goal. Focus is a necessary thing because I get easily distracted with surfing the net (digg, blogs, etc.).

How do you consistently produce lots of content?

good idea with the 2,000 words thing..

its hard to write a lot because i get lazy too... i just try to write more and more because once i am done writting an article i get a good feeling. haha

i don't know if i produce a lot of content but i try to write new content at least 3-4 times a week. i'd rather spend time doing link building but.. content is king!

Yeah, I'd rather spend time link building and seo and I forgot, checking my adsense :)

But with content writing, it seems that the hardest thing is to get started. Once I get that first blog post or article down, then it gets easier.

Hey, are you vegan? I'm vegetarian myself.

Yeah, me too. Sometimes I'll just go lie down for 30 minutes and brainstorm up a topic. Sometimes I'll just start writing the first thing that comes in my mind and see where that leads.

I need a way to find more things to write about. Also, riffing off someone else's post can be an easy way to produce content.

Four books published and two on the way. So writing is what I like to do.

My problem is the opposite, there are way too many topics I want to write about and not nearly enough time.

If you tell me what your websites or blogs are about or provide a link I'll see if I can come up with some topics for you.

Writing articles is becoming more and more important. Internet Marketers always see the value of how powerful it is to write articles.

Articles help to bring natural traffic to your website, great backlinks and they also can help you with your Adsense earnings. This is a great post :)

Writing 2,000 words a day is a good goal to have, especially when you rely on article marketing. Looks like a good idea and definitely should push you forward!

I started a new thread related to this thread at http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=270298 (can't post live links yet). Also, it's at the copywriting forum. I figure that's probably a better place to talk about content creation.

I'm with Dee on this one. There's just too much to write about... for clients, for my sites, for other projects I'm dealing with.... it can get nuts, and sometimes sites have to take a back seat to other things.

I haven't had time to write my own articles (or too many new ideas lately), so I've relied on outsourcing and rewriting for my article marketing.

Great suggestion ;-) I am just a part time writer, sharpening my skills by blogging. But finding the time has been a challenge. You are right ..it's about focus.

To write faster, break it up into points:

Here's how you can quickly write articles on any subject. Grab 3-5 GOOD articles or posts on any subject you choose. All on the same subject you intend to write about of course. Take notes on those articles as you read them, but just jot down points or key facts. You should have 2-10 points or so for each article.

Then assemble all of the points in a logical order and expound on each one in a paragraph of it's own and most importantly IN YOUR OWN WORDS. This way you have an article skeleton that you can write the meat of several articles this way on the same subject, even around the exact same points; thus lots of original content. This should give you 3 to 5 articles in the same time it would take an ordinary person to make just one. Of course you can take 1-3 of these subject points and write a blog or forum post on each one too.

    Hope that's helpful ;)

2000 words is a tall order.

I had to write 2500 words for an 'assignment' last week and it took me around 40 hours of writing.

Although that was all referenced and heavy legal jargon, I still couldnt do something like tht once a week :)

    Great tip!

    My contribution:

I run an outsourced content production company. The best way we motivate our writers to produce a huge amount of keyword-rich and useful consumer content is to hold brainstorming sessions where we map out a) general topics in the niches we're covering b) finding related keywords and topics c) doing a 'related demographic' analysis and finding keywords related to those demographics and d) producing tons of topic outlines. Our editors then parse through the materials and assign the outlines.

Having a solid outline for each topic determines the starting and ending points for research and analysis. It also gives structure to the article. It's been my experience that unstructure "free range" writing techniques usually burn a lot of time.

Content isn't king unless you are building relationships at the same time; and make it convenient for your content to travel across the Internet.

    My two cents.

Great point, britopian. Which raises the issue of writing content as "link bait".
