Is there a way to use a home pc to test the web interface capabilities of optigold rather than a server? I have been using optigold for over a year without utilizing the web interface and would like to know the benefits. BTW I do have File Maker Pro 5.5 Thank you
You can do it without Unlimited, you just are limited to 10 users per 24 hours if you use the client for the web server.
Thanks again for your help Shawn, I am still trying to understand the web interface. When I go to http://myipaddress a username and dialog box pops up. I don't know if this is a windows request or from Optigold ISP. In any case I can't get past it. I also can't get to the hyperlinks to each web section from http://myipaddress/menu.html for instance. However I can get to the menu by going to the local address at c:\Program Files\FileMaker\FileMaker Pro 5.5\web\menu.html What am I doing wrong?
Are you running any other web server? Just trying to figure out if it's coming from FileMaker or a different web server. If you quit FileMaker Pro, do you still get the dialog in your web browser?
Shawn from a fresh reboot I get the dialog box. FM is not running. Good point. IIS is installed. Maybe I should uninstall it? Did not think it was running however.
I uninstalled IIS and now I don't get the username/password dialog box. I get a page cannot be displayed error though. So there is nothing there?
That's better... Now try loading FileMaker and configuring the web server (per the user's guide) and see if it looks any different in a browser.
Hey what do you know? It works... How about being able to remotely access the web interface? Right now I am accessing via my LAN IP address. What are the benefits of using the web interface on the local machine rather than just entering info directly into Optigold ISP?
You have less functionality through the web interface. You can access it remotely as long as you are running it on a public IP address.
I guess this is why I was asking earlier if I needed IIS. Turning my local computer into a web server with cable internet access would then allow me to access remotely wouldn't it? How else can I utilize a public IP on my local machine?
