Concrete proof that DMOZ is even more important than 3 years ago

Discussion in 'ODP / DMOZ' started by Lee Rees, Mar 1, 2007.

    I now have concrete proof

I had a sub domain go from pr 0 to pr 3 just for getting in Dmoz, it has NO BACKLINKS in google whatsoever and has no readable HTML content, its a pure flash site!!

This is concrete proof that being in DMOZ is even more important today than it was 3 years ago.

here's my crappy homepage (A FLASH site with NO READABLE HTML!)
    http://homepage.ntlworld.com/lee.rees/

here's my crappy homepages pr after getting in Dmoz
    http://www.iwebtool.com/pagerank_checker?domain=http://homepage.ntlworld.com/lee.rees/

This for me finally lays the Dmoz argument to rest, Dmoz.org is to the internet industry what plentyoffish.com is to dating. If your site doesn't get in Dmoz, it's dead.

    PR0 to PR3 ZOMG!!

The reason I find it odd is because I have other pages that have only just got to PR 3 yet they have hundreds of links.

This shitty little homepage which is totally SEO unfriendly (full flash site) manages to jump from 0 to 3 just by getting in DMOZ.

I had PR3 on 2 of my domains by just getting 2 links from my own sites with only pr2.

So that makes my site even more important than dmoz (thats comforting)

I have most of my sites interlinked even before I had content and once I placed content it went to number one for (not much used) keyword in Croatian. :D

I would hardly consider this concrete. But Dmoz is very important in any seo'ers link acquisition campaign.

    A question,

when did notice your PR update and when did you get listed?

was there a pr update recently?

mmmmmm not very concrete is it

i got a pr4 at last update on one of my websites with only 2 backlinks and no dmoz listing

and just goes to show how much of a swizz dmoz is when crapy sites like that get listed and yet quality sites are getting rejected daily

Its note dmoz that is bad cause dmoz is just an entity run by bad editors, simple as that. So instead of saying bad dmoz, users should realize its the bad editors that are making dmoz stink.

Sorry, but your premise is incorrect, your data is incorrect, and thus your conclusion is incorrect.

You are benefiting from the homepage.ntlworld.com domain, not from DMOZ:

    Results 1 - 10 of about 695 linking to homepage.ntlworld.com

    Results 1 - 10 of about 165,000 from homepage.ntlworld.com

How long have people had to wait to get in to DMOZ?

    1. This question has been asked and answered ad nauseum. The "Search" feature is your friend.

    2. You're asking this in the wrong thread.

You can get more than that if you link to any other decent PR page. Recently I linked to a friend's new web site with no links from my 4PRdirectory and it got 2PR:

DMOZ has very little todo with it. The point is get linked atleast one time with a site that has been indexed and you will be crawled.

4 years ago I had a personal fishing site, that had nothing but pictures with little or no descriptions on the photos or any written text on the pages and got a PR2. Basically it was just a Coppermine scripts with fishing pics and looking at the stats I notice that the pics were being searched based on the file names that I had given to the images. The site was link only one time with my other site (wwws.org)

So to say that DMOZ is a big thing to get a link at and important? It wont hurt to be listed at DMOZ, it's good, but it's not the zhits like the way it once was.

I wouldn't think that to be a concrete proof that DMOZ gives a quality link just based on that incident.

Any other site can give you enough PR points, not just DMOZ. Also, PR3 is very easy to get. So, it will not make DMOZ important at all compared to 3 years ago.

I have a homepage that isn't on google almost no content. I posted a comment on TMZ and the particular article got PR6 due to relevant comments I guess. That 1 link gave me a PR2.

I have domains that have parking pages stating "coming soon" that have pr 2-pr3 on them. No links from other pages, no content, just the parking page that is generated when I add them to my hosting account.

I no longer try to figure out how Google hands out page rank.
