Google is not social networking website . Facebook is purely social network website. so you can compare Facebook with any Social Network.

Alexa is a total and utter waste of time as it can be manipulated so easy, google and facebook are in 2 totally different niches and just because one is above the other means nothing, this is my personal opinion i think Facebook has peaked and will start to decline over the next 2-3 years then fade away like the other big giants in social networks such as Bebo and the likes.

Google on the hand have diversified but Facebook just has just the one service that it offers which is not a sound business model,if it wants to survive in the future it has to diverse as well.

Yeah, what you heard is absolutely correct, now Google is at 2nd position in Alexa.com.
Attached is the ScreenShot I took for the reference; have a look.

    Screenshot.jpg

Reason is unknown, as we all know that Alexa ranking is made on the basis of no. of visitors. So here we can conclude that Google is loosing users.

People aren't using search as much any more... You can just log on to Facebook & get your daily fix. Facebook also gets a large number of Mobile users (I don't know if Alexa measures that)... I know in Aus' a lot of people just use their smart phones/iPhones to use or browse the web or more to the point - they only use Facebook. I don't know anyone that uses a Google App? The Facebook App here is free to use & there's no cost to connect to the net & use it on most plans. So that's why FB is killing it at the moment. FB will die out sooner or later... it's too intrusive & they will screw themselves over. People like to gather at the same place for some reason & that's FB in this point of time. When someone/some website comes along & grasps everyone - they'll go there instead... similar to what happened on MySpace - users left MySpace for FB.

Google is not losing users. Please. People are reliant on Google to get thier you konw what when they want.

Facebook simply attracted more people to the internet utilizing peer pressure. Just so you know, there are people out there who actually believe the entire internet is or in Facebook.

Those people probably won't be using Google anytime soon but when they do start using Google they will be added to the population of reliant users.

Facebook will not give people exactly what they want. College kids can't go to Wikipedia through Facebook and even if they did, they would be limited to what they need to get from the internet in the first place for relying on Facebook.

Facebook is not a search engine. It's a social network. The only reason it has more users than Google is because people like to socialize more than search for you know what.

Where did you get this number from? Sounds silly!
As long as Google shows not bad English results it still safe, but it start to annoy people with adds all over the page, so yes it may cause them the same situation what happened to Yahoo.

I don't think that Google is losing users.

I completely agree with OSSEO. Don't compare Google with Facebook. One is a social networking site while other is a Search Engine. So, people who to use social networking site will continue using Facebook while people who want to search any query, then they have to use search engine and have to come to Google. Google search engine competition is with other serach engines like Yahoo, Bing, Ask, etc.

I don't think they are losing users! I agree with all the others: Facebook and Google are not the same thing, so you can't compare them!

promoting your own site eh? Should disable your sig for this thread if you're going to act like you read it on somebodies else's site. What a waste going to the link too... it said the same thing.... Just trying to get people to go to and use your forum, funny how it didn't work. Why would we discuss it here and there...? I followed the link thinking there was going to be a story, how disappointing... at least you got a page view though huh...?
