I just discovered that Yahoo has de-indexed a site that Google shows to have 2,310,000 pages indexed and gives it a PR of 7.. The site is UScity.net.
Yeah we lost two of our sites in Yahoo to thier ever knowledgeable staff. I emailed them about being reindexed and got a canned response, let me know if you would like to see how caring they are
Yahoo results are a million times better than Google's at the moment. And you'd be blind not to see it.
No not at all. I've moved over to yahoo for any searches that might be about newer topics. IMO the sandbox is ruining the google results.
I did a search recently in Yahoo and got nothing but directories of sites that might or might not relate to that search.
Meh - I guess it works like that sometimes. For me, yahoo searches seem to be coming up with sites I think are relevant, a lot more frequently. I've seen some pretty shoddy google results recently too. More than that though, is the fact that google aren't including certian sites on their index, that seem to be 100% fine (And in my opinion shouldn't be penalised/banned). It seems that rather than focusing on what makes an index good, Google are focusing on what makes it bad.
Oooooooooooohhhhhhh no....... Have you not seen the Backgammon thread? Those results sucketh more than any other.
I would have to agree with that. Google has "ok" results depending on the niche, but for the most part Yahoo produces far better results. Ive been jumping back and forth between the two and find myself using Yahoo more and more.
Funny thing, my site was "de-indexed" by yahoo. I do searches for related keywords on yahoo and I get mostly directory or scraper sites that link to my site and my content. So I guess people are eventually finding their way to my content....after they sift through the directory sites....=)
I wouldnt jump on that bandwagon too quickly. Directories could be next on the list for SE's to start filtering. Content, links, on page optimization, solid navigation, proper tags, and lots of patience should do it. I'm no pro at this, but I now make $700.00 a month from the internet and that is $700.00 a month that I didnt have a year and a half ago. Yahoo does have a small problem there. Yahoo is working more with on page optimization from what I can tell. The problem with this is you have to find a way to filter the scraper sites while crediting those who deserve the spot. Google seems to be doing a good job of getting rid of a lot of the scraper sites but in the process is also booting sites that should be there. This leaves results that would normally be buried 10, 20, 50 or more pages deep into the top positions. From what I have seen these sites deserved to be on the 10, 20 50 or farther back pages because they suck and provide no useful info. Im just speaking from personal experience. At least with Yahoo you can disifer which results could be worht a click from reading the info on the result itself. Google sends me all over the place on a wild hunt for what I am looking for. My two cents...
