Im wondering about proxy sites and do they really generate alot of revenue.I see them all the time for sale, some with impressive stats. So whats the drawback?
I wondered this myself until I decided just to go ahead and make one myself. I installed a simple PHProxy script, link exchanged with proxy.org, and I saw immediate results. From what I see from my stats, a lot of foreign countries (middle-easter I believe) use the sites to cover their tracks. They pick out your site some way or another and it goes from there. I have only 2 ad units displayed, and these bring in about a 5% CTR, each clicking usually being worth $0.50 to $1.75. Go ahead and try it. You have little to lose.
Hey templates, Proxy sites are surprisingly very profitable. But I don't think I should tell that to someone who's just new. Cause there's already a lot of competition. With over 220,000 proxies on google, you may think that no users will come to your site. The truth is, proxy sites are being blocked constantly every day. A lot of proxy sites get blocked, which makes room for the newer one. With over 100,000,000 kids in the USA about 50% of them want to surf myspace or blocked websites, so that's how there's always ALOT of traffic. The drawbacks are, it's very CPU intensive and can consume a lot of resource. Let's say, it can take up a lot of bandwidth, so that's why you need a special host for proxies. The current keywords for proxies are pretty low paying, but proxies have the highest CTR of any other site mainly cause the "kids" who come to your site, are interested in information, and won't hesitate to click. Proxies are the easiest to get traffic to, there's myspace, and word of mouth. The biggest cost of proxies is the Dedicated server, and that's about it. You barely need to pay for advertisements, and you can make a lot through adsense + adbrite(proxified pages) + adversal (the popups). Most proxy sites use a combination of the 3, mainly adsense. Feel free to PM if you want more information about proxy sites. And feel free to drop me a green rep if you found this helpful.
Some filters ban on the basis of keywords on the site, or keywords in the domain like: unblock, filter, proxy, Like the St. Bernard's Web Filter, they filter solely on keywords, so you can have a proxy with unrelated keywords, work perfectly. And some programs like Web Sense also bans based on keywords. If a proxy is banned most likely, if it was entered by an administrator, they banned the domain. But if it was automatic, then it's probably only banned by content and there's a good chance you can readjust your proxy to get it unbanned. So they don't ban by IP.
You may consider for reverse proxy as it can be also load balancer and that can also act as a sort of application layer firewall for your Web servers.
Are all you guys running dedicated for your proxies? I'm thinking of testing the waters but a dedicated host is pricey.
I guess everyone with a proxy site must have killed me for saying all that. I didn't realize how much I gave away. Even I want to kill my own spirit -_-...
naw,we all thank you for the help!I just bought a network of 4 proxies.im trying to find the file where the ad is for the proxied pages..any clues for me?
well,it has a cgi folder in it..i have to assume its cgi then.as i said, its the 1st proxy ive ever had..here is site.. http://www.cloakedfox.com/ im trying to find where that banner on top is,and where the adbrite code is on the proxied pages..i looked in cgi/education folder where guy said to look, but dont see any codes
Ok, are you talking about the blank AdBrite banner on the proxied pages? If so, drop to that directory and do something like this: $ grep -n -r "Begin: AdBrite" * Code (markup): That'll tell you where your AdBrite code is - I think the code is responsible for the banner. It'll return something like: my_directory/nph-proxy.cgi:11089: Begin: AdBrite Code (markup): The 'my_directory/nph-proxy.cgi' refers to the file and the '11089' is the line number in the file. By the way, if you aren't used to getting your hands mucky with the files, you might want to make a backup copy prior to doing any of this. HTH. Cheers,
thanks..i found the adbrite code...working good now..i guess the last thing is the banner that is showing up on the home page at the top..i found a file <!-- Begin Publisher Code --> <script src="http://www.adversalservers.com/publisherJS.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript"> initAdversal("01badca73e9a1ce11d4f926020d30383", true); </script> <!-- End Publisher Code --> wondering if this is it
Just a note: I've tried AdSense, Adversal, AdBrite, Azoogle, Adult Friend Finder and more and the best paying for the homepage is AdSense. I suggest an ad logger however or your account will get banned eventually since a lot of ppl will use your proxy from the same IP and you might get a lot of clicks from the SAME IP numerous times a day. Azoogle doesn't perform well on proxified pages, adbrite does OK, AFF ppc does OK but % is better however not many if any actually signup. Adversal is crap and I would never use them again.
