Brand new Dmoz Resource zone project launched, for webmasters....

    Hello,
Myself and one of the dmoz editors i have known for about a year now have in collaboration launched a new dmoz resource zone project cause the current R-Z has failed to deliver.

Its not unlike the current R-Z , it will be run by webmasters and supported by dmoz editors that feel that they can help webmasters by providing some constructive feedback to users waiting for their site to be listed on Dmoz.

Its a place for those who still think that dmoz has some value and want something done to the way the things are going right now.

Currently forums have 2 dmoz editors , and we would like to invite other dmoz editors and webmasters to join the forum and help us in our mission to once again put some faith in webmasters about dmoz.

Read the rules before you join. This forum will never turn into a war zone and editors are requested to respect others, else they can say good bye to the forums, cause we are not associated with Dmoz, nor Aol or Resource Zone and we do not really care if our new site gets listed on Dmoz or not. Its not a place for webmasters to bribe editors either cause thats a ban no questions asked.

Meta Editors are more than welcome to join too but same rules apply to them.
Please signup with an identity different than your dmoz profile.

    Site : http://www.dmoz-resource-zone.com/

    Forums : http://www.forums.dmoz-resource-zone.com

    Digg url : http://digg.com/tech_news/DMOZ_Resource_Zone

If you would like to support this project please provide a backlink to the above on your site.

Why? I have no qualms over people being able to link the two together...

Its only your preference if you wish to keep your identity safe incase you fear that meta editors will revoke your powers. Not saying that all meta editors are like that.

We will not ask for your identity either so who is who will be kept secret if the user wishes to do so. Its just optional.

I can see many people joining your site just to try to corrupt DMOZ editors.

Do not worry its a ban for bribing them or myself :D . We do not need such users, its for those who wish to get some review and feedback, its not some magic forum that you post on and your site is listed in 2 days.

We are promoting only those dmoz editors to editors status on forums who do not have a shameless behavior or seem like they want to help out users, if they want to approve some users site listed on our forums thats their choice.

@LeopardAt1 its a design by Design Studio, which i am guessing was bought by freewebsitetemplates and offered for free of cost. So anyone can use the template link for site in the footer. And you are more than welcome to join the forums.

Just wondering...what if someone poses to be a DMOZ editor? How can you tell if hes lying or not? If there is a way, then you guys should make dmoz editors have a different tag under their username...for example Administrator, Junior Member, DMOZ editor, etc.

It's a nice design and your goals seem honorable. It would be nice to have a place where editors and webmasters could come together in a non-adversarial environment. I wish you the best. I'll probably join. :)

    Check this out : http://www.dmoz-resource-zone.com/forums/member.php?u=2

Every editor gets special title (even i do not have anything that shiny for myself :( )

This would explain a bit maybe http://www.dmoz-resource-zone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6

But before i go posting links i would suggest you browse the forum we have tried to put as much information as possible there , but if we forgot something do let us know.

@compo : thanks thats what we hope to achieve already got some feedback on forums about the same. Dmoz is not bad, nor is R-Z itself its the group behind it that destroys the image. And we hope to get some really nice editors like yourself involved and help others out.

Cause i think if we help each other out we might actually see dmoz improve as i said before that it takes group effort to make changes instead of bitching individually about something...

    regards

Thanks, "not an editor yet " part, neither am i , nor i think i will be, i just tested my editor skills out and was literally killed :p http://www.forums.dmoz-resource-zone.com/showthread.php?t=12

Thats gives me a unique idea for a section to have new wanabee editors test their skills out :D . Would be great fun and this way users will learn how to improve their sites in return.

I hope this does well because it may provide a much-needed interface to DMOZ that is currently not available, but I'm wondering how you'll handle the central problem: essentially hundreds if not thousands of SEO "experts" saying "hey I submitted my site yesterday why isn't it included" and "my site was rejected why?" and so on and so forth. I'm not saying these people don't deserve answers, but I can see it becoming 99% of your forum's traffic (look at the original resource-zone where they have a rule saying they won't discuss specific submissions and they still have 99% people demanding this info).

So I'm wondering, do you guys have a plan for this, and what is it? Honestly answering all these questions would consume a lot of manpower, and some people are going to get mad because they're told that their super incredible site "does not qualify and probably will not ever qualify".

    Stores,

exeeditor asked a very nice question almost similar to urs : http://www.dmoz-resource-zone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25

Now, remember its optional for editors to reply to someone requesting for status check but they can certainly provide a feedback (these forums are more of a feedback zone for those interested in dmoz). you can check http://www.dmoz-resource-zone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8

User asked for his sites status, but did not get the same but infact editors were able to provide the reasons why it will be "rejected" rather than if its already in the list or not.

If an editor feels they can provide a status check than its good if not its still good. Users registering and asking for status check should first think " hey was my site really dmoz material " , we will come accross lots of users joining to cry and bitch when they do not get any reply to their status request. But editors are given power to give infractions to those users and if they report that some user does not deserve to be on forums we have no problem banning them.

Its not about getting to know where your site sits in Dmoz queue, but its about making people aware that "hey get your sites reviewed or think over it before you submit it to dmoz " .

Now also have a section dealing with those who want to become dmoz editors, and editors are willing to help those who do some efforts to try to become an editors, it will be a learning section rather than abuse section.

Hell i even learned my self that i am not dmoz editor material, so if i want to be editor i will start following those threads and learn from active editors and ex editors.

myself and others will try to make it clean and prevent it turning into another r-z. And in no way we will try to be a clone of R-Z.

PS:we thank all the editors here at dp for joining, and for the members of dp.

    Regards.

Thanks creed, site got indexed in google which is good for us, and is now number 3 on google for "dmoz resource zone " http://www.google.ca/search?num=100&hl=en&q=dmoz+resource+zone&btnG=Search&meta= and #6 for "resource zone" , i know few editors do not like seo work, but i try to keep my sites se optimized, hopefully more and more editors will come forward to help out (no one knows your true dmoz profile untill you tell us all), and to be frank right now we got more editors (exeditors ) helping out than the number of webmasters asking for help.

Plus we now have Ivan on the forums :p
