Ok, I have aleardy read 3 threads today about optimizing pages or sites. And in each thread the person is not getting the big picture so I decided to start this one to debunk the mystery. SEO - Search Engine Optimization The goal is to make your pages as optimized as possible WITHOUT going overboard. I think the problem here is that people think that the word optimize means "focused". That could not be any further from the truth. So I'm going to go step by step here so I have some sanity left. Title Tag: Your titles should not have !@#$%^&*() in it... so take that outta the picture. A pages title should be unique, this does not mean keyword stuffed. Good example: Air Purifiers - Keep your Environment Clean www.bobs-air.com Bad example: Air Purifiers :: Air Cleaner :: Air Filters :: Room Cleaner Titles should be no longer that 65 characters because that is all that is visible when people search and you don't want to look like a chump with ... in the middle of your words. Do you? Keyword Tag: - Never have a ton of keywords in your tag. NEVER place any keyword in your tag that does not appear in your page content. So keeping on the theme of air purifiers... Good Example - Air purifiers, Environment, Dust, Allergies, Clean Air Bad example - air purifier, air cleaner, air purifiers, air cleaners, air filter, air filters, ionic air purifier, ionic air purifiers, ionic air cleaner, ionic air cleaners, portable air conditioner, portable air conditioners, electronic air cleaners, ionizers, air purification, water purifiers, water purifier, reverse osmosis, whole house water purifier, water purification systems And now onto the descriptions... People, this is where you sell someone before they see your site. Entice them into your site with text that calls to action. Good example: Bob's Air has been in business since 1941 and provides a wide selection of Air Purifiers at the best possible rate. Visit us today and enjoy healthy clean air tomorrow. Bad example:America's #1 Choice for air purifiers,Biozone air purifiers, UV air purifier, ionic air purifiers,Water purifiers, whole house water purifiers, Portable air conditioners, dehumidifiers & smoke eaters Optimization means that you take the time to build pages that are made around a small group of keywords. If every page you build tries to attack every keyword for your site I can almost asure you that failure will soon follow. If you sell a type of air filter promote the hell out of it on 1 page, not 55. You wind up diluting everything you worked so hard for. I hope this really helps some of you out there because some of these threads scare the hell out of me. P.S. If your pages are like the bad examples please send me your industry so I can create a competing site
What is the value of including your URL in a title tag? If someone has seen that page title, presumably they already know what the URL is. At the very least, use those first 60 or so characters for something more useful and tack the company name on the end as a branding thing.
Like you stated. The value lies in Branding and user recognition. It adds up over time. Def. put your name at the end of the title tag vs the front which gets more weight.
Thanks for the praise... I used an example for the titles.. You could use anything really. Branding by URL or company name is fine. The point was to not over-optimize or screw yourself by stuffing.
