This is why I removed Adbrite from my website

I have six travel websites that have PR5, with a combined total of ~7,000 html pages and close to 1,000 uniques per day. The thought of having sponsored link ads in my websites does come naturally.

I signed up with great anticipation. I duly placed the ads on my site. I created the ads zones which I monitor almost daily.

Oddly, after 2-3 weeks, none of the ads are actually being listed under my selected category (eg: Travel > Asia or Travel > Accommodation). When I emailed Adbrite and waited almost one week for a response, they said they are having problem with their directories and they are "trying their best to solve the problem". Even now, if you were to check their directory now under "Travel > Asia", there are only 10 websites are listed there! There surely should be more than that, especially Asia being a rather popular travel destination. (or "Travel > Europe" which lists only 7 websites).

Hence I decided, rather than wasting my web space running their ads script, I duly removed the scripts altogether. My experience with TLA (Text-Link-Ads) is somewhat better. They did take time to list my websites, but listing they did. Adbrite is a different story.

    Just to share my story.

I do have Adsense, been using it for 1 1/2 years now and making quite good money. I just thought there are some extra space for Adbrite to diversify my income. Adbrite's concept is good, but how they got problem with their directory listing is utterly perplexing.

Well, I do agree that their support has been sucking as of late. I just added my site not to long ago and emailed them as to why I'm not listed in their site directory after 2 weeks. They finally emailed me back stating that they are having problems with their directory. But, I'm not so sure it's really hurting me. I'm making more money off of their network ads. The trick that has worked for me in making money with them is to buy a few ads for my site from them. I usually purchase ads from new sites or sort by CPC and find one with decent traffic, but will only cost me $3 for the month. I got lucky and purchased an ad from a new site where their stats were not correct. I'm now getting 1500 hits a day from an ad I purchased for $3/month, and it's made me about 30 times that much from my Adbrite network ads. Go figure...

Whoa, interesting trick Firegirl! Anyway, my policy for the time being is not to spend any penny for advertising. Quite happy with the natural traffic I receive for the time being.

The thing with Adbrite was it offers some sort of alternative income but it did not go well for me.

Also, I did try to run the "network ads" for 1-2 weeks. I think I received some clicks but no income was accrued to me. In the end, nothing works with Adbrite.

Yea i have adbrite on some sites and the payout sucks. One of them i have adsense on and make almost $100 a day and $9 from adbrite...thats a huge difference.

I just started using adbrite ten days ago and set up one ad. started receiving ecpm from network ads in two days. just made my first dollar.
it is on a galley2 section that gets a lot of traffic and low clicks so the adsense ads were like empty calories. now, my adsense ad on there started recieving good ecpms so I'll leave it for a while. to me it isn't bad for almost zero effort.

It does sound like Adbrite is not too promising as an Adsense alternative. Plus, after I remove all the disfunctional Adbrite script, my Adsense eCPM seems to be better. Big "G" must know their stuff, eh!

On the "brite" side, pun intended, I've already accrued about $20 from Text-Link-Ads (TLA) these few weeks. I do recommend them for some "pocket change"

    :)

    my44,

Have you ever used Chitika? Heard of them? they have interactive selling ads that are kind of slick. Ive never used them myself, but I would be really curious about how it might work out on a site like yours...

I'm very well aware of chitika "e-mini malls". My impression was they mostly cater for gadgets and consumables (based on my quick observation). Wondering if they have travel-related stuff now.

And honestly, the ads look like, well, ads! I prefer text-based ones which work well with my web design.

Well then, $372 across 4 months, not so good. One can make that much within ONE month with Adsense.

I signed up three weeks and am up to $0.13. Huzzah! I do like the free ad-serving for other ads, though.

I have tried to purchase ads on other sites three times, and all expired before they were approved. Adbrite has a cute trick where they charge you anyway and issue you a store credit if the ads don't run.

I'll give them until the end of the month and then I'm out if things don't change.

Exactly how I felt. Those freebie ads run for free on my precious web space. Time for them to go.

Store credit to book more ads that doesn't get approved? The cycle continues!

When did you sign up? I bet a few months ago, at least, when their service was "normal" and not deterioriating like these days.
