Dmoz Ruined My Life

For the records, I wanted to make a public post.

I am the creator of the econtract. I created the first and only 2 party contract on the Internet in the year 2000.

My company was bought out by a publicly traded company. I retain the original copyrights.

From the year 2000 to 2003 my website retained the top three positions in all search engines for the keyword "closeouts" other key words were wholesale and wholesalers. see way back archive
    http://web.archive.org/web/20010721203642/rothmancloseouts.com/

In the year 2004 I resubmitted my wholesale auction into the open directory. To my surprise I had to wait two years to get a ruling. During this time, my competitors got my placement in the search engines. I continued to ask the open directory for help and explained that I was the creator of the first and only 2 party contract online. The editors were so rude to me and they told me that my site was not good enough and that I would be banned forever.

I have been banned and today I am still stuggling as I watch all of my competitors pass me by. These competitors were not even listed in the search engines and now they are in the dmoz and they are using my unique buy / sell platform.

I don't know the reason my site was banned since I spent over 100,000 paying the programmers to make a perfect program without glitches.

So I just wanted you to know the truth. I feel like I am a real pioneer of the worldwide web. I have made no money while others have profited.

Someday the truth will come out but in the meantime, just save my post and I hope others will think twice before destroying people like myself who gave so much to the world wide web.

    Lots of similar, frustrating stories
Consider this (though it pales in comparison to your experience)

Blogger users who move their blog to their own domain lose their original blogger domain (site.blogger.com) which can and is quickly snatched by a domain squatter. As a blogger subdomain, your old URL appears higher in search results so your new domain is relegated to a lower position while the squatter benefits from the reputation and history you cultivated.

And that's how you make money off of someone else's work

So you blame the fact that you can't make money on DMOZ?

    I gotta remember that one.

Sorry, Nichole (my wife)! We're not going on vacation until DMOZ accepts all of my sites. :(

So you spent 100,000 dollars on programmers, and depended on Dmoz for years (lol) in order to make money?

You need dmoz for the backlinks to get in the top three placements. I created the first 2 party contract on the internet.

Dmoz isn't the only way to get to the top of the serps. Blaming all your problems on them seems like a cop out. If you knew anything about SEO you would know this, and since you clearly don't that is why you are not ranked.

Yes. I offered to send the dmoz editor a gift for my repeated questions about my site submission. At that point I was banned forever for attempting to bribe an editor.

Maybe you think this is funny but I am telling you from the deepest part of my heart that after all the work I would rather be dead.

PM me your domain name registrar, I'll send you my account info. You can push the domains to our account be free for the rest of your life. Sounds like a terrible burden to bear; not being able to rank in the top 3 spots because of the lack of a dmoz listing.

janesdeals if you really feel like this, and you aren't exaggerating, you should seriously consider seeing a doctor before something bad happens to you.

So you're saying that if you had 1 link from DMOZ, that your business would have:

    1. Had customers
    2. Been run effectively and made a profit
    3. Not had any other competitors taking market-share
    4. Been seen by GG, Y!, MSN as the most relevant site for your keywords

I dare say that it takes more than a link from DMOZ to be successful.

you spent 100k, why not hire an SEO specialist. You don't need DMOZ in order to rank well in SE.

That's sad and I feel for you but it's not the end of the world. Many members of this forum don't have their sites listed in DMOZ but have their rankings at top placement for their keywords. They spent a lot of time and money to market their sites. (including me :D ) See Link Sales Thread or look at someones itrader and see how much they've spent to be realistic. DMOZ will not help your site its just 1 link.

Now go get a listing in 2 of my directories in my signature with 5 deeplinks for your site for a small fee.
    ( Shameless Promotion ) :D

This post is really Twilight Zone, you probably should write a book “How Dmoz destroyed my life” and then seek doctor help.
