Ology Media - SCAM

This is not an affiliate marketing question, but instead a question about an ad network. Sorry if this is in the wrong sub-forum.

Ology Media's been paying us pretty high CPM rates since we generate a shitload of traffic.

They currently owe us about $15K and last week no one was returning my calls.

Today, their main number just goes to an automated mailbox that doesn't accept voicemail messages.

Sounds like they either went under or skipped town.

Advice? Lawyer up? Anyone else here ever dealt with them?

They're answering their phones again now. They say they're "auditing" the last few months' of earnings and they should be able to pay me by the end of the month. I'll believe it when I see it.

As if that weren't bad enough, one of their VPs emailed me today about a "great new campaign" that pays $0.60 CPM. Yeah, it would be great...if they paid their publishers.

They haven't paid us since November and they owe us a similar amount of money.

What they mean by "auditing" is that they are out of cash and they need to win some time. Their CEO, Beth Haggerty, told me in an email that they're doing another financing round and they will pay us after closing it. Yup, they are in a deep hole. They have troubles paying their employees too. Potential bankruptcy? Maybe.

We're also looking to pursue a legal action, but obviously I can't comment on that yet.

My advice is to run away and not waste any more time with them. We haven't been sending them traffic since December and we have pulled our comScore assignment yesterday.

Yes, I will be taking a similar path very shortly. How do you pull your comScore assignment by the way? That reminded me that I assigned our traffic to them a while back as well.

We've assigned our comScore to other company.

You will have to contact comScore if you want to undo your traffic assignment or you can sign up with comScore direct. Google "comScore direct".

I can't post links or reply to your PM since I don't have enough posts on this forum yet.

LOL Dave. Ya, I recall them sending a comScore form to sign. I am confused... so basically I should sign up there personally?

Since you been paid in the past did you originally have to wait the 120 days? I ask this because they say they pay in net 120.

Our original agreement was net-90, but then they changed it to net-120. They were almost always late to in paying us, even though not by much at first. We did take partial payments, since they had troubles paying in full since summer last year. It got even worse in autumn, that's when they started using "auditing" excuse. It's clear that they have serious cash flow problems. December was the first month when you got absolutely nothing from them, not even a partial payment. Non-payment is a nice Christmas gift.

So far they are 176 days behind, so much for net-120 agreement.

Same here. Went from net-90 to net-120 back to net-90. Now they seem to be trying to go back to net-120....that is IF they pay us by the end of this month, which seems unlikely.

Digged into the Ology Horror Story archive.

Me: Although I have had Ology in my ad lineup since late June I have only received one check. I would like better assurance that I will be getting a check every month by a certain date.

    Vlad:
How about net 90 and I will adjust payments starting this month?

NEVER HAPPENED.... I never got monthly checks.

They must NOT be making money. Why else hold off on paying your publishers. This is the third company in my lifetime that has scammed me ad money from a website I run... (assuming Ology skips town and never accounts for the debt).......

They also had a habit of overbranding their name and acting incompetent when instead of running legit ads all you saw was OLOGY. They also loved using their name on those special ad campaigns, they were exclusive to them but they used our sites to drive traffic to their own entertainment hub. We should be the first people they pay!

They have always come through and eventually paid me, but I had to hound them nonstop and threaten with lawsuits at times. This is the first time they haven't paid and haven't responded to me. I finally got someone on the phone this week who "promises" that they will pay by the end of this month. Let's hope they do, for their sake.

It's always a good idea to get repeated good reviews from folks who have been paid by a network to avoid scenarios like this, but generating $15K should at least get you a personal number
