Hello, want to share an interesting observation. I have an arcade site. Several times a day I get refferals from MSN on the search query "oyunlar" or "games oyunlar" etc. etc. The site ranks at #14 for that query "oyunlar". The word "oyunlar" is not on my site and today I was thinking how come? Then I remember that I bought a text link on a turkish site and he wrote the anchor in both enlish and Turkish (bedava online oyunlar). The link is sitewide on 14,924 webpages. Conclusion: By only buying one sitewide link (10$) on a huge site you can rank at the top on MSN on a word not even on your site. What does this mean? Yes, MSN has their arms open for spammers. I think Google is more protected than this ... Or could it be that MSN has translated the word "oyunlar" to "games" and I show up good because one of my optimized KWs is "games"?? Please give me some feedback on this, thanks.
MSN is a joke as far as getting rank is concerned. Forget links.. just put that word first in a title tag and you'll probably rank #1 for it.
And how will it help you to get ranked number one for that word? Unless it's a Turkish site, of course...
yes, in terms of msn..they are still not very protected..we have lots of sites with the search keyword on most of their link texts all getting front page listings in msn. one best example is my blog: http://marketingjournal.blogspot.com. i started to got some links with the link text (marketing blog) a few weeks ago and now my site is on the first page of MSN but not google, yahoo and the others. bryan
And then, you are #1 on msn for your primary keyword, and you get 2 visitors a day... It's sad to say, but just ignore msn and focus on google .. number 240 on google still gets me more visitors then #2 on msn.
My experience is pretty much like frankm's -- I rank well on all three but I still get the vast majority of traffic from Google. In fact, #2 is probably neither MSN nor Yahoo but AOL.
and then sometimes, msn sends tons of traffic. i have several sites that each get thousands of visits from msn per day. and like you all, i have sites that get hardly anything for #1 rankings. all depends...
What are the themes of those sites, Donna? I have everything from financial to entertainment, and none of them get over 50 visitors per day from MSN
sorry, fryman, not willing to share that info. and i admit that MOST topics probably won't get that kind of traffic. but there are a few that do.
