Yahoo directory, is it worth it?

    Hi.

The cost of getting included in the yahoo directory seems to be $299 per submittion and $299 annual fee per site accepted (unless you have adult content).

How much traffic do you get from the directory?

Is it really worth $299 per year ??

I am talking about the yahoo directory and not the yahoo search engine.

Google does not have a directory (well...it uses dmoz, and we all know that dmoz is a joke).

    No

    buy cheap adsense for $299/year
    or buy into smaller sites/directories

also Y dir submissions the title gets tweaked by people who haven't a clue and you're stuck with it as it also is used in the Y serps.

I paid it for the first year to get listed quickly, but do not pay for subsequent years.

Don't know if it hurts or not, but I remain in the directory listings, just not the sponsored directory listings

I would say for the first year it might be worth it. But other than that buy some cheap links and you will get much better value for your money. Some of the Yahoo directory pages are even PR 0 now so the value is really low.

As far as traffic from the directory, like pretty much all other directories its a big 0.

I have to disagree with you guys based on my results. I have a site the owner pays $299 for the Y! directory. He does not do *any* SEO work for the site and he's found #1 for his most imporant Keywords. I have other sites (not in the Y! directory) with ton of SEO work and tons of links that aren't even in the first 2 pages of Yahoo?

I use to think the $299 was waste of money, but after the last Yahoo update, I'm not so sure anymore.

Y dir does not influence G much these days.

It is also the question of a client understanding net marketing a lot of times.

Yes "mycompany widgets" is going to be top but if its not a well known company who is going to search for this combination? Its not easy to tell clients their company is actualy not known beyond the block.... or by people who have yet to buy from them.....

Also Y dir gives one "maybe/maybe not" nice linked title $299 is a bit rich for one keyphrase....

Yes, I agree Y! directory probably does not help in Google results.

This particular website has about 8 different Keywords in the title. All #1 in Y! search results. Something like this "south florida key west surfing widget wax surf boards". I was suprised myself... For $299/yr to be #1 in Yahoo for 8 KW, I would say it's worth it. Also this website has been around for about4 years. I'm not sure if it will work for new sites though.

Well, they are both running in diff. algorithem so it would make sense. For $299 a year, I would suggest spending on SEO work from a third party instead if you're lazy. $299 is plenty to get a decent SEO specialist or company to get you in the close upfront with most search engines.

Traffic you will get from Yahoo directory will be dependant on how deep inside the directory you are as is the case with any directory you submit to.

Either way, it is very likely you will get PR from this and indexed quicker by other search engines and at the same time receive traffic.
