Money Bookers - worst service of any processor I have encountered

Discussion in 'Payment Processing' started by GlobalGamingNews, Feb 1, 2007.

I opened an account at money bookers a while back because someone requested if I could accept it as a subscription payment option on one of my sites (of which I own several).

Immediately after opening the account, I was bombarded with a series of emails prompting me to make a deposit. I quickly grew tired of getting these messages so I thought I'd go ahead and make a deposit just to shut them up.

Well, I had never dealt with them before, and had recently read industry reports that they were for sale, so I didn't want my credit card information stored in their database. So I went to a currency exchange discussion forum I owned and asked what others would recommend as the best alternative for making a deposit.

I went to sleep, and when I woke up the next day I had an email from someone on that forum saying they had sent me $15 Money Bookers and was requesting $15 in e-gold. This was a complete shock to me, as I in no way made any statement to imply that I was wanting to exchange currencies. I checked the account and there was a transfer to my account of $15.44

I sent the person a reply and informed them that I do not personally know them, and the money bookers email was different than the one they are writing from, and asked if they would like me to transfer the remaining balance back, or if there is another way to do it that won't incur money bookers fees.

I never got a reply, but after a week I got another email from them wanting $15 e-gold. I sent the same reply back again. At this same time, the subscriber who originally requested that I opened money bookers wrote to me saying that their transaction would not go through.

When I asked money bookers about it, they told me that my account had been locked for security measures. Man, did that ever sound fishy. First the send me a long series of emails asking me to deposit funds, and then the moment there is any money in the account they lock it without sending any notice. It seemed like they were deliberately scamming people.

They told me that to unlock my account I need to provide a copy of my id and a copy of a utility bill. I informed them that they had never asked for this information, and had never even bothered to notify me that the account was locked, they simply left it up to one of my customers to inform me, but here you go anyway, and I sent them all documents they asked for plus extras, including copies of credit cards (even though I haven't used them on their system).

Well, after two weeks, the account was still locked, not a word from money bookers on any subject, so I asked again. I got a reply saying oh, we're waiting for you to tell us about this $15.44 transaction. If they wanted to know about that transaction, they should have at least asked about it.

So, I told them I have no idea who that person is, that I had repeatedly offered to return the funds to them, and I told money bookers that they can remove it as well because that person is not a customer or an associate of mine.

After about a week they removed the funds from my account, but my account was still locked, so I asked about it again. I told them that I have complied with all requests, even beyond compliance, even though they have yet to act in a professional manner and just tell me what they are wanting.

The reply I got back was to remove the money bookers link from my exchange web site. That's a surprise, since there has never been a link there. I told them that there has never and will never be a link to them on that site, and if they know of one I'd like to know where it's at because it certainly wasn't put there by me.

Another week passes and still no reply from them, so I ask them for an update yet again. This time they tell me that my account is too risky and has been closed (without notice), and told me that if I ever open another account they will catch it and all funds would be forfeited - as if I would want to have an account at a place like this.

In short, money bookers is the most Mickey Mouse e-currency I have ever seen. They seem to have absolutely no idea what they are doing, and I wish I had never opened an account with them because who knows what kind of amateur database they are keeping it with - I imagine it's already in the hands of several hackers. These people are not only unprofessional, but completely clueless and should not be allowed to have confidential information in any form, let alone being trusted with people's money, credit card numbers and bank account info. Money bookers is a complete joke.

Sorry for the long post, but man, these guys make me sick and I had to recount my experience. Yes, I hate money bookers.

Wow that's a long post but yay I read it from start to end :)
First of all I would say that could be due to the funds.Moneybookers lock accounts if they found the source of your funds suspicious. So what I am guessing is that those 15$ were from some illegal source.
And one more thing, there are lots of people saying same about paypal. Paypal has ripped lots of people without any reasons by locking/restricting their accounts. So far I don't have a problem with moneybookers and I've many friends using moneybookers without any problem. Infact moneybookers is a good payment processor. Just my view

Strange experience but it does not surprise me since you write in very confusing way and I guess it was hard for moneybookers to track your emails :D

Moneybookers is very good payment processor and support is great too in my experience. I once called them and my problem was solved in one minute.

Oh and you are the first with such problem and if you read their terms they don't allow exchanging money from one processor to other so this may be the problem with you ....

It's funny because I always liked MoneyBookers and never had any problems with them!
Hovewer, I am sticking to e-gold as my favoutire e-currency :D!

    P.S.
Exchanging MoneyBookers to E-gold is considered breaking the terms of service of MoneyBookers.com!
In other words they don't allow anyone to exchange MB >> EG or the opposite!

Egold is the best. Wish they had some easy funds uploading system.
But the problem GlobalGamingNews mentioned is really strange and I've never read such stuff against MB anywhere. Moneybookers is a great system and is easy to use but some how have strict policies.

I heard from some of my online friends that it is simple ti upload the money to e-gold using icegold.com :)

I have almost never uploaded the money, maybe that's because I don't have a regular job:D ...so I only used what I have earned online!

I never exchanged any currency using their system, I never offered to do any exchange with their system, and I never implied to anyone that I was wishing to exchange. That person was just nuts. You'd have to be to just blindly send money (even if it's only $15) to a stranger and then demand e-gold.

Anyway, first point is, I did not exchange or offer to exchange, so I did not violate any of their terms.

Second point is that on half a dozen occassions they simply did or said nothing, and then when I asked for a status update they acted as though they were waiting for X, even though they had never requested it from me.

In fact, I was asked for ID on two different occassions after I had already sent it, all on the same support ticket. Anyone who had taken two minutes to review the ticket could have seen that it was already sent.

This is the most amateur e-currency I have ever dealt with and their support leaves a lot to be desired.

I hate to correct you, but I am apparently not the only person to have had problems with money bookers. I know several people who have had various problems, usually related to their support staff.

And again, I have not exchanged any currency using their system.

considering volume of users and transactions not many people consideres them bad....

You are talking about some currency exchange forum etc ... this must be your problem ... also did you provide them copy of your id and utility bill or what were they asking for ? ...

As for support ... why don't you phone them ? I get them always on the phone and support is great ! I guess email and your lack of conversation skills as it is seen from your first post have something to do with this ;)

Owning a currency exchange forum has absolutely nothing to do with exchanging this currency. I find it somewhat comical that they ask me to remove their link from my currency exchange site, when no such link had ever existed. They must be making decisions, and subsequent requests, based on pure assumption rather than actual facts.

As per id, I believe I originally stated that I not only provided id and utility bill, but went beyond this and provided more extensive documentation, such as copies of credit cards as proof of identity. I believe I also said in another post that (on the same support ticket) they repeatedly asked for this information even though it was already received by them. However, I sent it again, just to make sure. You would think someone could take 90 seconds of their time to review the ticket history.

I articulate myself well enough for people around the world to understand me without problem. Perhaps money bookers has hired a support staff with a sub-standard command of the English language. ;)

Man you have to understand that if transaction was done via MB and it was stated in the details of the transaction that it is exchange with E-gold you have the problem ..... and check out who sent you the money and how the person got your MB email ? .....

Anyway phone them like I said

Sure you don't think just because you and you alone have problem with MB they are bad ? .....

I can not say of any details mentioning anything about e-gold. It said the date, their email address, and the amount of the transaction. There were no other details present, certainly no mention of e-gold. And honestly, I do not think it matters where they got my email address. I did not violate any terms.

As for phoning them, I appreciate the suggestion. If I had any interest in using their service I would probably do that. But I've honestly spent enough time dealing with a support staff that is, at best, not properly trained. It's as if I was calling tech support at my ISP and reached someone who didn't know what a computer was - that is how I feel about the people I encountered. I was only opening an account there as an added convenience to one person, and it's just not worth the trouble of dealing with such insanity.

I know for a fact that I am not alone in problems with the support staff of this company. Perhaps in the context of this thread I am, but I know of a few people who have encountered problems with them significant enough that they cashed out their account and moved on to other e-wallets.

I have to agree mate their customer support is absolutely terrible, but most of them are, especially PayPal with their magical "100 excuses to delay the clients issues" book lol.

I'm too lazy to read the whole post, but I HATE money bookers. It took me over two weeks just to get my spend limit above $60.00 lol.

    They're terrible.

Yeah they suck balls mate. :(

Marketed properly and with a decent customer service they could have been a viable alternative to PayPal. They blew it. :(

emagicn, you don't get messages from them that you have received money - they are some phishing attempt that happened to other payment processors (such as Paypal)..

You can easily identify them, because they ask you to click on a link in order to receive the money - which sends you to a fake Mb website...
You will never get that in a genuine MB message.
