I was wondering; It's against my ISP to host my own site. What's the chances of getting caught doing so? Hypotheticlly(sp?) lol...
All it takes is to get their attention, and they can find out straight away if you're hosting from their connection or not. Once your site gets enough traffic, they'll notice and check why so much outbound bandwidth on port 80 is being used. They can and likely will disconnect or suspend you until you speak with them, all depends how they handle this though since some providers are more lenient even though you're still breaking the agreement. Keep in mind if you have a dynamic IP, you'll need to configure it properly to avoid issues with the IP changing every now and then. Generally not recommended to host from home though
It's not worth it. Not when there are so many cheap hosts out there. You should take a look at shared VPS hosting. That may suit your needs until you get enough traffic and use enough resources to upgrade to a VPS
Forget about it. Most ISPs have a cap on their upload bandwidth which they monitor. Additionally, why are you risking the security of your server? Get one for $3 a month and you are sorted.
It's not that I can't afford the three dollars a month. I don't have a bank account which means I need 20-25 dollars to even open it, seven for a domain, and three+ for the hosting. I don't have that money at the moment. I was hoping that someone would let me run their forum, or something and let me hook onto their server lol.
