DMOZ/ODP used to be used by Google as a site of authority and being listed in the directory would gain you considerable SEO value.

In the first week of August 2011 Google STOPPED using DMOZ/ODP as a site of authority therefore there is no longer any value from a Google SEO perspective of being listed in DMOZ/ODP

You get no links, you get no PR, you get no SEO value and anyone on this forum who tells you otherwise is lying. Tell them to prove their claims with examples.

If you submit to DMOZ and get listed after August 2011 you will realize ZERO value.

What is the cost to submit to DMOZ? It is exactly the same as the value you get - ZERO

I think that you get as much value SEO wise as you would from any directory. I dont think its a magic link, i dont think its a do or die listing, but i do think that its a good link to have :)

If you are a person who submits to directories, than submit to DMOZ. How much any directory helps your site i dont know.....but i know suggesting to a good and reputable directory certainly cant hurt.

A rather long while back, google used to actually suggest to webmasters that they submit to the ODP and that it would help. They have removed that from their documentation. This does indicate that they no longer hold DMOZ as high as used to. (source)

And more recently they have even dumped their clone of the ODP, which further suggests the lowering of the importance of the directory. (source)

At one point it was also considered that that directory submissions would help a site, this has been shown to no longer be the case, just look at the lowered importance of directories in general.

Check out this video from Matt Cutts: http://www.webpronews.com/google-gives-an-update-on-how-it-thinks-about-dmoz-2011-08

All in all, about the ONLY reason the ODP has such a good rank these days is for no other reason then people linking to it to complain :D Eventually even those will die out, and then no one will talk about it.

That's correct. Matt Cutts has NOTHING to offer those interested in what Google has to say. That's kinda like Anonymously not being the spokesman for editors in the ODP, lol.

At any rate, I've given links to back up one side, rather then pointing the finger & yelling it's not proof, why not offer up something to support your side... without anything to back up it is worth something, its nothing but words, and words wont carry much wait unless you have something to back them up with.

So how about it? Got something better then Matt Cutts saying the ODP is not the bread & butter of the internet?
Got proof that Google didn't actually toss out their clone of the ODP, I mean, heh, it is speculation that it's removed right? Even though, ya know, it no longer exists, lol.
Got proof that Google still suggests webmasters to still suggest their sites to directories like the ODP?

Come on, I'd really like to see your proof to counter my speculations as you say...

They do not give "news" (nor any other type of communication), and in most cases they do not give listings either.

Don't waste too much time to submit to DMOZ.
If they won't update their directory, it will be down slowly.
Google removed its recommendation for this cause.
Try submitting to other quality directories.

Why is it not too smart ?? Am I complaining ?? I was simply answering someone's question about how long it takes !

Sounds like you're bitter for some obscure reason !

You missed the sarcasm in helleborine's post, and joeventura missed that you missed it.

The average wait time for an ODP listing is someplace between forever and never, so, erm, yeah, your week of waiting isn't peanuts compared to some others. I've submitted sites randomly since 2005, most of which are still not listed, and I suspect that most of them have not even been looked at. Its also safe to assume that most will never ever be looked at.

So the reason for being bitter on most peoples part is not obscure in the slightest...
