.com or .mobi

I am preparing to launch a new site specifically for use with mobile devices. I already have a .com I am quite satisfied with (m______.com) as in, m followed by the site's category, and it is already registered in most extensions including .mobi.

Here is my question: Is there any value in seeking a .mobi domain instead? Mainly, will this extension gain a wider acceptance for this specific application--or will .com remain king even in this area.

I feel that I do need to choose one or the other for SEO reasons. Thanks in advance for all advice...

Personally I feel the whole .mobi thing is kind of a sham. I would just build the site on the .com, and display content differently based on the browser being used to access the site. Go ahead and buy the mobi but redirect to the .com.

    .mobi is new

.com is old and stable IMO.

Although .mobi has a fair chance of overtaking .com in the mobile arena.

The world thinks dotcom. But buy both extensions just to be sure.

Thanks all for the helpful advice.

The .com is going up today as the main site. I don't own the .mobi, but i will obtain it if I can do so easily. I purchased the .com for a different purpose about 2 years ago and never developed it--kind of a convenient mistake.

I would not buy the .mobi domain. With it domains look to me like unfinished names, can't get used to them.
I'd prefer .mob if not for it's common meaning.

And I would throw .name into the same bin.

First, I doubt there will ever be anything better than a .com. As for the mobi domains, I think it’s to early to tell but I have serious doubts it will ever take off.

.com is the way to go. I don't think .mob is ever going to work, as there are plenty of possibilities with .com, and that is by now the most logical extension of any internet adress.

Yes, judging a new domain deal this early is probably wrong. Nevertheless, I see a good reason for introducing .jobs .pro .name .mobi and so on. Smart move. Big names will just go ahead and secure all these extensions which means easy money for the registrars so why not. All it takes is a good promotion campaign. I'm sure there's more extensions to come..

Like most said, don't go with the .mobi. Nothing rings like .com.

I'm glad to see everyone is in agreement...thanks for the confirmation. I guess I won't bother with the .mobi unless it just drops some day. Beta site is now up at http://mbible.com if anybody is interested.
