How do they do it? Am I missing something? I have some very interesting websites and about a dozen of other webmasters linked my site from theirs, I posted a couple of comments form product related blogs with the URL but that is it. I have a max of about 20 links to my site, How many people do I need to contact to get 1000 links to get ranked anywhere reasonable on the search engines? Also how do you know how many links to your website exist? Is there a software that do it for us?
Register in directories... Free directories. There are thousands of them [EDIT] You can try registering in some of mine, say try the Miko67 Business Directory and then go from there [/EDIT] /miko67
The way I get backlinks is by not wasting time worrying about how to get backlinks and instead spending the time to create original and interesting content. The links and search engine karma follows. For what it's worth, you don't need 100's or 1000's of backlinks to rank well on search engines. Google (especially) have often said (indirectly) that quality backlinks from relevant sites count the most and common sense dictates that since there are only a limited number of such sites, you don't need many backlinks to rank well. Hope this helps you in some way. Cheers!
Sometimes it's because the site is worth linking to. Take for example an entertainment site, whether it be funny pictures, videos, flash games, or Flash animations. www.homestarrunner.com is an example.
Thank you for your input. I am finding it difficult to rank anywhere on google/msn/yahoo. I will starting registering to the free directories and give it more time.
This is what I do, I go to Submit Express under link popularity check and put in a site I want to check and look under their google links. If the site looks like so: - http://www.linkunow.com my unusual umbrellas ourzumbrellas.com - http://www.linkunow.com This is a site that was given a google link.... http://www.linkunow.com local and regional http://www.bigdealzes.com I submitted this site and he was nice enough to give me a link..... It all comes down to % from site... if the site doesnt have a good % dont submit it...... If it does have a good % from site submit it......... Thanks Cindy
I think some of the best ways to do it from what I have read is *Have very very good content that people want to link to. *Submit to descent free directories, some free directories will just get your email and spam you...If you are going to submit to lots and lots of free directories set up an email address that you use only for submitting to directories, therefor it doesn't matter if there gonna give you spam cause you don't need to check it that often. *Submit articles to blog, do some self advertising like "read more articles on ..... or read more about me at ..... and put a link in. *Create a links section to your website, swap links with companies that are like yours or ask your clients if they want to swap links. But if you have a gardening company don't ask to swap links with a taxi company, this won't help it could make things worse. Just some ideas, there are plenty more things out there that you can do to help you with gaining links. abc1234
Many people are buying links too, especially the one looking to rank TOP 10 for competitive keywords.
You received very good back links generating ideas here, just right them down and do them one by one, make sure to do them right not just superficial. You will find out that if done right you will also have 100's of backlinks using just the advice received so far here.
Don't get too caught up in the hype of needing hundreds or thousands of incoming links. If your main concern is ranking for certain words or phrases then good quality links (with your word or phrase as the anchor text) is what you should focus on. You'd be surprised at just how few you need to make significant progress up the SERP's, even in high-competition areas. I'll take a small handful of quality links (good PR, authorative sites, relevent topics, specific anchor text or description etc) over a 1000 free directories anyday.
But even if you have good content, dont expect any good result before 6-12 months. "Content" way is a healty way and can make you strong in the long term but buying links can increase your speed in that road.. If you have a web directory, then i guess they buy lots of links only..
if you are interested in submitting your websites to free directories then you can check some of them here http://www.selbourne.com/web-directory-submission.htm
More free directories can be found at www.addurl.nu. Also look into automatic link placement programs...
Well...article submissions and directory submissions are some free ways of getting links . Also , you can go for link exchanges and you can always buy links on other sites
Go after long tail keywords with 100-500 searches a month and then shoot fro 5'000'000 searches a month
