Interesting announcements by Google today, not only have they had a redesign of their homepage, they also have made steps in the social direction by releasing a "suite" of Social Tools. Here's an interactive demo as well as information and videos of what we can expect to see. (Its being tested via invite only at this stage). The suite as Gina Trapani sees it... LOL - that is exactly what I was thinking! I love Google for their gmail, document storage, free phone, among other things. Social tools they haven't done much that isn't already out there.
I guess after having several failed attempts, they will have learnt a bit about what people want... hopefully this time they've got it right. I like the look of their Android app and have already installed it on my Nexus one.... Now I just need an invite so I can start using it... I had the chance to check out Circle and I though that the feature was pretty clever. Something I would definitely like to see sometime in the future for Facebook (which I wouldn't be surprised is in the works right now).
At first i just thought ... FAIL. But looking more closely these features seems to be quite good. I still think it'll be more of a niche social network though at least for a while.
i think this will help Google for gaining more fan and we who are using Google in every second, will be so much thankful to Google.
I hope this new social networks will also help to connect with world like Facebook. Lets see what will happen.
Unfortunately the invite mechanism has been closed for now. It was opened yesterday for a while (that's how I got mine), I was able to invite people, but about an hour later the link was removed from everybody's page (apparently the demand put on the system was 'insane'). Hopefully they will open it back up soon. Cheers James
