Hi everyone, I would like to share my bad experiences with a member known as "Sleuth1" on DP. Beware of this member! He first ask me to design him a 728 x 90 banner for $10. I designed him the banner and showed him the mockup. He then said the colour was wrong, so I modified it for him and sent him an updated version. Then he said he was "happy" and paid me on paypal. Payment received, so I sent him the master piece, and gave him positive feedback. He then replies back saying the banner is crap and how its incomplete etc. and demands a full refund! BEWARE! If he wasn't happy in the first place, he wouldn't have paid me. I am no way going to refund him this. Just want everyone to beware for people like this. For more information, please see our full conversation via PM: Thanks. Feel free to share your comments.
Like I said it was a crap banner, not worth $10 or even 10c, you got paid, I was the loser, don't bad mouth me on this forum. If anyone thinks that that banner is worth ten bucks, let this guy know about, it. Also I was polite enough to keep your name out of it, you have dropped yourself in it, not me. Also consider this would you as a customer be happy to buy that banner ? It's clearly very poorly done. Tell me clearly you did a good job with this?
It seems like you are trying to flame me. You waste my time and want a refund. Normally designers make you pay first, but I didn't! I showed you a mockup first and you was happy with it, there is no refunds after the watermark removal, clearly everyone knows this. Let the viewers decide...
Just to clear this up I paid another designer to finish this job he will vouch that I paid him with no problem, also see the difference in quality.
Well, I admit that banner is better than mine, but if you didnt like mine in the first place, you had the right to say so before payment. not after watermark removal. Also you actually never mentioned it was for an advertising banner, until your last PM. Anyways, im just slightly mad because theres people like you who waste people's valuable time.. Just to clear things up again, if you had said earlier that it is not what you were after, I would be happy to have redone the banner..
Sleuth1 I understand that you eventually didn't like the banner, but you should have said that before you bought it. You have seen the design earlier and said you are happy with it. At this point kevydesigns is entitled to keep the money IMO.
flipperman it's supposed to be a advertising banner, not a web page header are you saying that is a good ad banner?
ameerulislam it begins with a misunderstanding, when he showed me the mock up I thought he was just showing me the colours, not the finished product, I had no knowledge of water marks or anything else. If you read my PM's which he published above, that should be clear, he misunderstood what I meant by banner--I assumed 'banner' refers to advertising banner (which I wanted) not header banner. When I said I was happy with it, I was referring to the colours not the shape, thus I gave the link so he could do a quick fix on the banner, you can see he refused this or a refund. Is that clear?
The second banner looks better, both parties confirmed this. However, you could always have said no from the start. To me it seems like an error in the communication. The designer thought he was doing the right thing while the buyer was expecting another thing. Shit happens but fortunately this didn't lead to any nasty things. In the future, always make sure that both the seller and the buyer is on the same page before closing the deal.
It seems to me that there was a huge miscommunication, When someone says a 'banner', its assumed that he is talking about advertisement banner, header is normally called, well not surprisingly, a header image!! Also its always good for buyer to show a sample, a similar design of what he wants to be made. It helps the artist in designing. It could have avoided the misunderstanding here. What I didn't understand why sleuth paid in full, if he didn't believe that the work was complete? The agreement was to pay once the work is complete, wasn't it. I can imagine the hilariousness of the event - Kevydesign: hey here's your banner, I corrected the colors. Sleuth1: Looks cool, Send me the image when its complete. *Waits for design* Kevydesign: humm, its complete *Waits for payment* Sleuth1: What? Where is it? *Still waiting for design* Kevydesign: I just showed you *Still waiting for payment* Sleuth1: No you did not. Kevydesign: Yes did!! *Fight, grab popcorn!!*
I don't see any reasons to argue for 10 bucks as well. I recommend you guys to forgive and don't claim to each other at all. Wish you be positive and dissolve such arguable situations personally without gossips and claims.
Hey, to be honest, im not trying to argue or flame. I agree with the miscommunications. I will definately improve this as a designer myself. You obviously learn from your mistakes. Moving on..
Well it is too bad that both sides are damaged but this is 'cause of miscommunication so you should as you stated learn from your mistakes so you won't mistake in future job communication. And stop fighting, wish you good work in future to both.
