This is a little project I have been working on since July, let me know what you think...

Mobo: epox mf570 SLi (supports up to 16 gig of ram) socket AM2
    Processor: AMD x2 5200 (2.6 until I overclock it)
Memory: Corsair XMS dual Channel ddr2 800 (2 gig worth)
2 EVGA 7600 GT KO video cards (in SLi mode)
Creative Audigy 2ZS Platinum Sound card (high def)
    Logitech 5.1 surround sound
Gateway 21" HD widescreen (for now, I have a 32" but not enough office space)
    Ultra X2 550w modular psu
Ultra Fan Commander (controlling 4 fans, plus temp monitoring in case, on HDD, and on CPU)
    DVD Burner
    CD Burner/DVD Reader
    ZIP Drive
    Floppy/52in1 media card reader
160 gig Seagate SATA HDD (with room for 4 more)
    Logitech laser keyboard/mouse combo (wireless)
Linksys 54G wireless with speedbooster (125mbs)
Ultra Case which I have modified.
    I think thats about it...

If I go to vista, then I can bump it to that, I will probably run it up to 4 for now...thats enough for what I am doing...also, sorry about the paragraph form, my laptop is on the blitz again and I can't use my edit features (like bold, italics, etc.) and it won't space things out properly.

When you have a mobo and a PSU that supports two video cards based on nVidia's specs, you can run what they call SLi...This is from the SLiZONE.com site:

"Using proprietary software algorithms and dedicated scalability logic in each NVIDIA graphics processing unit (GPU) and MCP, NVIDIA SLI technology delivers up to twice the performance of a single graphics solution."

The cards work in tandem, except they only produce an outsignal through 1 port. Memory is shared between the two cards (each of mine have DDR3 on them, which is twice as fast as DDR2) and the two GPU's split the graphics to share the load. Basically, twice the performance from a single card.

I'm still getting some rebates back in the mail, but overall I have about 1500$ into it...It was closer to 2000, but I have had a least 1 rebate on everything that I have bought. To order an SLi machine right now is about 2500$, and then you don't get everything you want with it. I just decided to build one myself.

id say your graphics cards are lacking but if you are on a budget then they will do ok.

Id also go for intel but thats just me along with a larger hard drive, and why not get another and stick it in raid.

2 gig more ram would also do the trick.

Same here. I've got 1.00 GB of RAM. It's an old computer, but I still weep for my crappy computer. Maybe I should buy another one..

What kind of kinks could you possibly have? except for the fact that you have Vista installed. Good job with SLi rig. Do you run any programs that really take advantage of the dual processors in the video card setup?
