phpLD Mod: Spider Google and DMOZ

Here is another cool mod that I am excited about and will be adding to the next version of phpLD if everyone likes it. What this mod does is spider google search results or a Dmoz category and then display the links with title description and url pre-checked. You can uncheck the ones you don't like, and then select a category and the links are added.

This mod is available in the Supporters Forum only. It will likely be added to the next version of phpLD. I've already tested it, and it is a lot of fun! :)

Awesome, I look forward to working with you, and I also hope this mod will be a great success. I'm really having fun with it and I think we may have to add spidering for other sources too. :)

I never thought about it that way. Yes, I think I am going to try an experiment where I get mixture of google and dmoz in different categories, as well as some data from other sources, and see if it increases the indexing and traffic.

Wow David, really a great mod, also we all have different tastes and we might not chooes the same sites to list :D:D, but everybody should be aware that google uses the informations of DMOZ for some site description on SERP... So to avoid duplicated content lol write the description yourself or modify it at 50%+

W00t for the tool! Really nice,

    Patrick

Good idea, can I ask a question? Wouldn't every site having this 'mod' have to adhere to the Open Directory Licence?

Good point, Kevin. I will be sure to add some information about using the information. In the current form of the mod, all the information can be edited. In addition, the information is being "reorganized" in a new structure. Under many copyright laws, organization of information in a new way is permitted. Examples would include baseball statistics or world facts. Regardless of the level of "reorganization", we should certainly put some information about the use of the DMOZ info, even though the webmaster who is using this info can also see the DMOZ info at the bottom of every page on DMOZ for themselves as well.

Thanks David, I just think script owners have a legal duty of care when providing thier products, I haven't seen the mod as I've been blocked from the supporters area for some reason?

I'm open to learning as well as sharing, can you expand on this and perhaps qualify this statement?

Kevin, are you still wishing to be a supporter of phpLD?

Yes, when it comes to information that is known as common knowledge such as statistics or common facts, reorganizing the said information has been legally defended in previous instances. If you like, I can locate the exact law for you.

Now in the case of DMOZ they actually have a warning message on all their pages, so a webmaster that was using this mod would need to visit the pages on DMOZ in order to get the url of the page they are wishing to spider, and they would encounter the DMOZ message, so to some degree the responsibility rests with the site owner. In addition the mod is designed in such a way as to allow the user of the mod can modify the information they imported up to 100%.
