Well looks like the update has started. One thing is when did the big G take the snapshot in time for this update. Some background info for someone new to the PR game is that Google takes all the info from a certain date (links to your domain) and than works their PR magic on their computers with that data. They then export that info to the PR toolbar which is now referred to as the PR update. So how to calculate the snapshot date? If you launched a new site in December/late November you can help determine the date. In the big PR update thread their are some people mentioning that they launched in December and they got some PR with this update. Just post in this thread when you launched and if you got any PR in the January PR update. Based on the dates posted we should be able to determine the snapshot date. Some variables in this would be that you got links as soon as you launched. those new links got cached by the big G quickly. So the more info the better the snapshot date estimate. Post away. Thanks.
Just a question, if we do find the date of the snapshot, what kind of information can we gain from it?
Well my site is pretty new and and has not been through an update yet. As of yesterday my backlinks have been updated in google and are now showing. But no pagerank has yet been alocated and even using the future pagerank tools im still showing 0 accross all datacentres. So i'm not sure whether its a snapshot or maybe a rolling allocation as some sites update before others. my site is askcybersteve.com cheers
If you have a popular blog and post daily then the snapshot date will become apparent when an update is complete - after a certain date new pages will have no pagerank. That's how we figured out the last update date (July 26 I think).
The snapshot is just another piece of the big G guessing game puzzle. The info is useful for link building and when new links would help. Some people assume that the snapshot occurs about one month in advance of the update. Problem was that the October PR update had a snapshot from late July. One example would be if you received some PR7 links on January 1 they would not help your PR this update (although they should help your SERP if the website was on topic). If you are paying for those links its something to consider (if you're only worried about PR). In theory if you were just concerned about PR and you knew the snapshot date you could really work that info for some useful link building. As RedCardinal mentioned with a very popular blog we could figure out the date. If I don't see some accurate new site launch dates I'll use that method to determine the snapshot date. Thanks Redcardinal green coming your way. Also the launch date of any new website could be used. So if you have a new site (3-6 weeks old) please post when you launched and if you got PR. Thanks.
Good idea I have a CSS Templates site launched in late SEP 2006 but has yet to receive any PR for this update.. Therefore, I think that this update cuts off before SEP last year..
My Free Online Flash Arcade was the only new site of mine to get pr and its was launched 07 July, all sites after that got no pr even though some of them have more bl's from higher pr sites etc...
All my sites I started in august - october, /new to bussiness/ but four of my websites gained google links between 26th and 28th december. Monitorized on link ezer Hopefully this will help..
Hi, I am calculating around the begining of Noviember for the date which google has used from live pr to toolbar pr. Anyone else see other dates ?
I know you're joking about the 25th but from comments I've seen its looks like the snapshot occured sometime between the 12-20th of December. Thats based on comments in the huge PR thread. As RedCardinal mentioned when the PR update is complete I'll go through a popular blog and see what posts got PR and we'll likely be able to pin down a more accurate date. Thanks.
Launched one in mid-november, started link building around 11/28 and it went to a PR3 yesterday. Launched one last April, have been slaving away for eight months, and it's been a 1 since July.
I see what you are saying Biz-King was built in late august the only pr it got were for Main and newer catagorys added in mid novemeber. Details pages were given pr that joined and it should show a date. So it could be assumed that a snapshot occured at that period. http://www.biz-king.com/detail/link-1607.html heres a details link from biz-king from late sept thx malcolm
Well, my newest site, was the only site that got any PR This site was published in late October 2006, and has now got a PR of 4
This update is a total mess. PR6 to a 0 (10yo old domain strong PR) PR6 to a 0 (huge can in backlinks) PR5 stayed the same PR4 to a PR2 PR3 stayed the same PR0 stayed the same PR0 to a PR2 Concerning this thread. I have a site I launched in late November on a new domain it is still a 0. A site I launched mid December on a 8mo domain that G didn't know got a PR2. Chris...
Just checked all my domains and the newest site to get pr was regged on 25 August put online early sept. My sites launched the begining of october got nothing.

I had PM'd someone who posted in the thread about his new site getting PR. He PM'd back saying his new site (which now has PR2) was 24 days old so you can assume; Update started on January 9th (subtract 24 days). Snapshot occured after December 15th. Any more info regarding new domains - new sites launch dates would be appreciated. If your new site launched in December got PR the info would be helpful. Thanks.
Thanks to DP member ASK for his post. After Dec.23 seems highly likely. GFX guessed Dec25th maybe he was working at the Big G on the 25th! Also took up redcardinal suggestion and say what was happening in another thread. Checked with Matt Cutts blog & the Adsense blog. Both get cached quickly and almost all the posts gets backlinks immediately. Matt Cutts date example- Explaining algorithm updates and data refreshes December 23, 2006 @ 12:38 am · Filed under Google/SEO, Glossary/Definitions Google Backlinks: ~66 Average PR: 5.8 | Max PR: 6 | Min PR: 0 Summary for www.mattcutts.com/blog/explaining-algorithm-updates-and-data-refreshes Also the Google blog posted about ad blending shows up. Again it got plenty of backlinks quickly so its was likely cached immediately.
