Which is best to sponsor? A directory, forum or blog template?

With an interest in directories and phpLD templates i've had a few of my directory templates sponsored by other people in the past - this simply involves them paying for the template (or paying for part of the development cost) and them getting a sitewide link on that template in return.

The question is which type of template yields the best number of return links and hence is the best for link building?

Directory, forum or blog templates? Which are most in demand?

 

Blog templates (i.e: WP themes)..
Many people have blogs nowadays and if it's a nice theme,people would be happy to use your theme.

 

i'd say it would be better to sponsor a forum template, almost at every step you make you find a forum

 

Do we think that forums and then blog templates are better many because they appeal to a larger number of people and because they have been around for a lot, lof longer. Directories and new templates specifically only seem to have taken off in the last 12ish months (if that).

 

I think if the link is for your directory you would get the best return for the directory templates because it is related.

 

I think directories are the best and it is better to sponsor a directory template other than forum and blog templates

and also I think Alive and Aviva reached the page rank of 7 by sponsoring templates

 

I agree traffic wise because it relates its best to go with a directory template however i do think that blogs and forums are likely to provide a great number of return links in the long run... obviously its a question of which is better - number of links or quality of traffic and relativity of links.

 

Make a sick wordpress template and you're golden. There aren't a ton of good ones out there and plenty of people will use it... giving you a backlink.

 

Sponsoring a joomla template can be cool too

 

If it's a nice template,of course that would be cool!
Many people use joomla now so I think it would worth the money.

 

How about a template that offers similar look and feel for Wordpress, pdpLD and phpBB?

I think I might have a crack at that for one of my directories.

 

Be original people! For most websites this is a case of none of the above: why would a cooking site (say) offer templates?

Link-bait is the way to go for most websites I can think of. It can be as simple as an authoritative article on a subject people in your niche want to know about.

Directory templates seem to be very popular as everyone and their uncle has a directory therefore there is a larger market for them.

I think it is the best to sponsor templates in your niche. That way you can get relevant traffic that can covert good.
Blog themes are more popular but blog can cover any topic, while directory is directory.
If you are only after number of backlinks, pr and seo you could sponsor Wordpress skin. Also WP skin would be good for webmaster related site since they are mostly ones that visit those footer links.
So there is no general answer. Everything depends on your site topic and what you want to achive.
