Dear Friends, Today I open this topic as a report for my new site http://4dollarjobs.com as a competitor with the well-known Fiverr I have spent $99 for source code, $8 for domain, $20 for buying some facebook and twitter promotion, $100 for hosting. Total is $230. The main idea that I decided to spend this amount of money is that: At Fiverr: buyers pay $5, sellers gain $4, Fiverr gains $1 At my site: buyers pay $4, sellers gain $4, I gain $0 So, the same jobs, but cheaper price. How can I live? OK, I will earn money by Adsense. This is a very difficult starting. However, I'll follow my plan. I am ready to spend about $500 more for promoting my site. I will report my site progression here for you all to have an idea about this way of money making. Cheers,
I'll follow your progress. thanks for share. Oh ya I found this interesting article about clone script. http://sitefling.com/blog/the-secret-to-using-clone-scripts-successfully/ hope it will help you. looking forward your progress
Good idea. But once you make some money I'd definitely suggest making your website look more professional kinda like Fiverr. And don't go too far with the adsense ads meaning put maybe some at the top or at the bottom but not everywhere as this can certainly look spammy to some people and annoy them. Good luck with this.
In my browser (FF) some of the Twitter and FB icons are blocking the texts of the people. Also, this is just my opinion, but for people that have been to Fiverr, at least for me I feel that the template is way too similar and therefore I think your site as a "scam" or "imposter" on the first impression. Of course that judgment is wrong, but thinking that most visitors to your page should have visited Fiverr before, I think its a good place to look out for. Just my 2 cents!
Not a bad idea. You should consider typosquatting Fiverr. Buy Fiver.com, Fver.com, Fivr.com, etc. Since the typosquatted traffic will come directly from your competitor, you're getting the exact traffic you need.
Thank you all for your comments. I do understand the difficulty of the uphill. Today I am excited to tell you a lovely story. One of my new member is offering an exciting gig. Have a look here. I just bought his gig as I thought it will be the first deal of my site. Then, I gave him 3 urls of some dead blogs, this mean nearly no visitors. I always add different channels for each of my blog in order to remove inefficient ones. Few minutes before posting this post, I've checked my adsense and see about £7 earned from these 3 dead blogs.
goodluck with your website. Try getting a new design tho, more web 2.0ish fiverr's design is better, but other than that good idea you could be successful with some good advertising and loyal visitors.
Maybe you should reconsider not taking a percent of the transactions? It doesn't have to be $1, but it WILL help you get your website going. And maybe you should add alternatives to PayPal, like Moneybookers... Good luck!
This is good idea, but fiverrr? Umm you just need to reduce your night sleep to 3 hours, otherwise you may reach fiverr is 2 decades, and in first case you will reach in a year.
...but do you really think people are going to work for only $4? How are you going to find people willing to work? I'm sure finding people that would want work for $4.
The one thing I would say is spend some time on design, I am using the same script as you but I have spent more time on design. Don't want to be seen as just another clone. Not that mine doesn't look like a clone but it doesn't look like every other clone out there. I changed the background and colour schemes. Good luck
