    For the email advertising component...

    Is the whole purpose of the email to advertise our site solely or not. (in which case is it something like gmail ads)

    If someone could show an example that'd be great

    The email ads simply append your text ad to the end of an email that is going to be sent regardless (look at the bottom of any email you get from this forum... for example new post notifications). A little info here:
