Do you think Google will be beaten by Facebook soon?

Currently Google is no.1 in the world while Facebook is no.2

I have seen Facebook advertised their site on Google Adsense.

Do you think Facebook will become no.1 someday?

 

Well from my point of view, Google is the no.1 search engine today and Facebook is you can say no.1 social networking site today. But Facebook can't beat Google because Google provides so many features for SEO and that may be Facebook can't provide.

 

mcgillteak is right, please friends, do not compare two completely different poles together. Google is a search ENGINE and Facebook is a social NETWORKING site. Yes they both are at number ONE position in their own FIELDS. And they cannot take over each other's job

 

No, they are comparable. Google was a search engine but not anymore. It has solutions like email, maps, OS and many other such stuff. They are comparable but I don't think Facebook will beat Google. Facebook doesn't have a good approach in my view point.

 

If you're talking in terms of traffic then that's pretty much irrelevant. You need to be talking in terms of revenue generation and/or profits.

You're forgetting about YouTube. Google Search + YouTube = massive market share.

 

google have its own cause, and facebook is its own, both are not comparable to each other.

 

Google Adwords gets on Facebook too via some of the games. I see impressions and clicks from some Facebook Fishing game.

 

Even if you mean in terms of Alexa it would be tough for Facebook to do so.

 

I would not say it's irrelevant.. Facebook started his ad network after their traffic has significantly increased. it is not working to well yet but who knows what's coming next.
By the way Facebook had already beaten Google in terms of traffic for some days in 2010.

Bing (MS) owns a portion of FB. FB ads have been doing well, but never provide the laser targeted success of search ads. FB is still privately held and by the looks of it has no intention of turning public. If they turn public, they will definitely fight with google at some point. If they stay private, they probably won't make a huge launch into the search space. I would expect them to start at some point, because there is big money in it, just look at Google.

 

Nah, everyone goes to Google to search. Everyone. Not everyone has a Facebook account (me for example).

 

agreed. social networking comes and go, yes facebook has lasted quite awhile; but it could easily be taken over tomorrow by the hottest new social site. google is more relevant/useful

Facebook has a long way to go before they can be compared with Google. Google has lots of things accomplished during its early years and they are the owners of youtube, another number one site on its arena, video sharing.
