GoogleGuy (not meant to be inflamatory)

I've been wondering, what evidence is there that googleguy is legit? Keep in mind, it's quite possible I have missed many of his posts, or something obvious, I'm not making a statement here, just asking an uninformed question. =)

I mean, there are some people out there who could type the things he types and sound very legit and not work for google. We've all met charismatic, honest-seeming liars.

Not that I'm saying GG is a liar or doesn't work for Google. I think he probably does. It's just odd that he chooses to post in the one forum, and although his answers contain information, they are vague enough to not be completely impossible to replicate.

I wish he would post here, I like the format of this forum much, much more.

Googleguy did a blog on google's site a few month's back - probably just to answer this question.

I had a few emails into Google over the course of 6 weeks and they never were responded to. I contacted GG about at least getting a response, and within 30 minutes I had a response from Google. Good enough proof for me.

No, please don't invite that guy here. This site would turn into a never ending list of dumb posts like "googleguy, is my site banned?" "googleguy, when will the next PR update be?" "googleguy, why isn't my site ranked at #1? ad infinitum...

Possibly GG prefers to post in a more tightly controlled environment.

In my early stages of learning about web business I posted a few times on WMW. I was asking questions about websites I had found and wanted to understand certain aspects of. I didn't post live links - just name.com. Without exception, every post I made was "moderated" by removing the name of the website I was asking questions about. This meant nobody could answer my questions. Sounds crazy, but it's true. It left me feeling annoyed and powerless.

Later I found DP and, although I don't post very often, I value the fact that when I do post, I don't have to worry about overzealous moderators zapping me. Thank you for that DP. :)

I no longer visit WMW - will only do so if someone here posts a link to something that looks worthwhile to read.

I wish GG would post in this far superior forum - but as I've said, I think he prefers the tightly moderated environment on WMW.

I much perfer these forums to WMW and SEW too. Just seems more friendly, easier to talk, and a better system. I have SEW in my reder too, but I never post there, and I don't even have WMW in here.

DP doesn't need GG, we have our own set of 'authorities', most of which seem to know what they are talking about. You have to think that G would not have a guy floating around the internet forum world posting etc... I am sure they read the forums, but I can't believe that an employee would ever be allowed to post, especially with the a name like GoogleGuy.

In regards to his helping Shawn, he may have a friend that works at Google. Hard to say, but if I owned Google I would not want an employee claiming to be an employee and answering questions relating to work.

I signed a disclosure statement, and that was for a much smaller company ;)

Googleguy posts from the google owned IP block, this has been confirmed many times. The guy also posts on the Googleblog with the name googlguy. so I think it is above all doubt that it is coming from Google. My only question as always has been is there one GG or is it just a sort of task.
