Hi, my question is Which domain name is preferred for Search Engines, For example,A web site for new cars newcars.com or new-cars.com for the keyword (New Cars)
agreed. although, ive read that search engines use a - meaning a space. so new-car.com may rank better than newcar.com, but not by much. just register both.
Yea, I think people assume that website names don't have spaces in them, so you'd have to tell them new dash cars dot com if you were telling them the link orally.
If you are only interested in search engine traffic register new-cars.com but then bear in mind what could happen to your return visitors if a competitor picked up your abandoned newcars.com! You would lose your traffic to them! So register both if possible. If not I would use newcars.com It is more human friendly and you can even *steal* some traffic if your competitor later uses new-cars.com True search engines would give new-cars.com first preference but there is more to it than that. You have a perfect advantage if you get in first. Remember there is also page rank to be considered? So you could still rank higher than new-cars.com The other thing is that SEs also seperate newcars to 2 (or more) keyword phrases new+cars depending on the user's search string. So if you have a choice register both and advertise newcars.com otherwise register newcars.com and alias new-cars.com to it. That way you will own both domains but pay for one. (Please take note that an aliased domain *still* remains available for registration by others)
buy both. Make 301 redirects from one to the main. I suggest to get backlinks for new-car.com, it's an advantage for seo, but returning visitors will want to add only newcar.com
Prefer newcar.com. This domain will not pose a problem in SEO and its also easy to remember and pass the radio test
I thought that in Google now the dash doesn't help in seo. I mean that as far as the key phrase "new car" goes, either new-car.com or newcar.com will rank just as well. If you notice when you search on Google, your keywords are highlighted in the SERP's whether the words are jammed together or have dashes or spaces between them. Plus newcar.com just looks better. Every time I see a dash now I think Adsense Site.
Hi there, I agree that you should buy both domain names. But bear in mind that you will have a though competition on ranking high on both of the domains. new-cars will have to compete with both the new and cars keyword. And same goes for the other one.
Just because the words are highlighted in the SERPs doesn't mean that Google uses them in their ranking algorithm. I think new-cars would rank slightly better.
Sorry but you are wrong. Thats the problem with using more then one keyword in the domain name. In this situation, the site will compete with others using the same name: new and cars..
take both to be sure you're not loosing visitors, I mean it's just the reg fee (if you have to buy them for a million I would overthink this advice though...)
I know you can't use underscores in domains but when you make URL's this article by Matt Cutts says hyphens are much better than underscores. http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/dashes-vs-underscores/
better option is to get both as new-car may help SEO and newcar will be easier for verbal advertisement and its easy to remember as well; also taking both of them would not cause any one else to compete for the same name!
