    I have stuck into a very strange problem.

    I want to install wordpress on my new site, I downloaded latest version of wordpress 3.0.1 from wordpress.org > unzipped > uploaded to the root of my site.

    Now the next step on this page says (page link)

    Since this file is not included in download copy of wordpress they have asked to "create" it yourself with the details like Database Name, Database Username, Password...etc

    I have created it and uploaded it to the server.

    Now to install wordpress they are asking to go to this URL http://example.com/wp-admin/install.php

    But when I go to that URL (example.com changed to my domain) I get 404 not found error :(

    How can I install wordpress?

    @geekhang

    I dont want you to install it for him! Rather, he should be taught how to!

    @jah...
    As default, the zip extracts to yoursite.com/wordpress. All files should be then moved to the public_html to be accessable from example.com!

    So make sure you did that!
    And No, you dont have to make wp config file yourself, but wordpress installer will make it for you!

    Once all files are on public_html, simply open www.example.com and continue with the installer!

    I dont want you to make someone else do it, but you can simply study how to do it!

    You are Wrong GH!

    Wordpress comes with wp-config-sample.php And Installer creates wp-config from it, with our infos!

    @jahangir

    You will be getting an installer if you run www.example.com/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php

    YOu should Move all files from Folder wordpress and bring it at the Main Directory or Public_html and The URL you tried will start working!

    Solution For this is Better now to depend the Advertising Management Plugin, But Insert the Code manually!

    May be, The Adcodes are in a language , which the plugin can interpret! Many PLugins are limited to JS only, Specially for Adsense Ads!

    Wrong, you have to rename it to wp-config.php yourself, put the database info in, get those 3 keys, save it then upload it all to the server. The installer doesn't create wp-config from it? :p

    ^ Problem fixed.

    Actually the problem was on my end. When I unzipped the wordpress files I don't know why but not ALL files got unzipped. Some files were missing and wp-config.php was one of them.

    I unzipped that folder again and this time ALL files got unzipped and I edited that wp-config.php file with my database info.

    Now my site is ready and rocking :)

    Wordpress has an installer! Do you know that?
    And if created wp-config, with the details we give during the installation if the file doesnt exists! Do you know that?

    Give a check! I have installed Wordpress a thousand times and am damn sure !! If i wasnt sure of these silly things even, this thread wouldnt have existed!

    This seems to be going well. You guys can't even agree on simple solutions.
    What's the point anyway? This forum already has a Wordpress section where people have been getting help with Wordpress questions for years.

    Hi extremephp,
    Thanks for your offer. I have a blog which was hacked a week back!. After detailed inspection on this issues and checking with cpanel raw access logs, I have found that the hacking was done from a zombie computer by a pre-configured virus. The hacking was done after a serious of compression tests and I think a new worpress admin ajax vulnerability also helped in this case. After that a new database was created.

    So after this i'm very careful about wordpress security issues. Now there are a lot of security enhancements on my blog. wp-admin has been limited to my ip, advanced permission settings for wp-config, .htaccess, advanced cookie system for back-end, filtration for GET and REQUEST parameters, base64 like codes and other sql injections, many more..

    I request you to check my recently hacked website freezonal and suggest me additional security tips that I must follow to prevent any further hacking attempt!... I didn't even sleep the whole night when the site was hacked!... It took around 3 days of work and experiments to bring up our website back to normal and to install additional security features.
