Hi all, is Dmoz as great as everyone seems to think that it is? i mean i have tried getting my site listed in there for almost 1 year now with no joy. Its a nightmare! especially now the submission status forum has gone. Will this seriously hold me back in the SEO stakes? will i ever get listed? who knows, the only answer i have is 42!
Please Please Please Get over DMOZ! It helps alot but it's human edited, it's flawed (because of the humans) but it's only one component of your web presence. If a DMOZ listing will make or break your site then you really have to wonder what else you are doing wrong. If you really want to see DMOZ succeed then give them an hour a week as an editor. And please don't let this thread be a DMOZ slanging match (you'll find plenty of others you can add to). Lock it now! Sarah
Ok thanks guys, well my next question would be what can i do, or what should i do? is it worth doing anything or should i just leave it and see what happens?
hang on? im not allowed to ask about DMOZ? I dont plan to take this into a slanging match im just after peoples thoughts on my question. i hope the ethos of this forum isnt to lock threads that annoy people? sorry if i have caused problems?? Mike
before a DMOZ editor comes and gives you 2 pages worth the instructions, I will summarize it for you : Find the best category to submit to and submit only once your homepage. Then hope you'll get in.
DMOZ is like the church of scientology http://www.xenu.net/roland-intro.html You ask too much and you're toast
but i did this, then checked and they said its awaiting approval and i checked 6 months later and they said it wasnt there and they had do recordso i submitted again and now i dont know
That is all you can do, bro. The reason we come off in such a bad way because we have 100s of pages in DMOZ-argument threads.
My homepage is already listed, how shall I procede to get some of my inner pages listed too? (Those pages are highly relevant, I m not submitting them just for the sake of submitting)
From what I was told it all depends if the editors will have a further look at those at their convenience.
Hey Billy I'm a nice girl really, even been to Swindon, like - I think, or was it Bracknell, or Slough??? Anyway, I jumped in too quick. There's alot of DMOZ angst around because it takes so long. Lets assume your site hasn't been deleted for being inappropriate then it's in a queue and sometime soon or sometime never some unpaid human will visit it and decide what to do. Or it may be too hard so it'll be overlooked for a while while the unpaid human concentrates on easier submissions. My darling friend SiteTutor was ribbing because of a Katie Holmes thread I have elsewhere so ignore the scientology stuff. We do actually welcome questions and DMOZ has recently closed it's forum section for checking your site submission status so you're in the dark for a while, sorry. Be patient, and build a great site Sarah
You will have a hard time getting inner pages listed if they have the same subject matter as the home page. However you may strike it lucky or you may get viewed as a spammer and lose the lot. Drat those pesky humans!
Why don't you apply for becoming the editor of that category if the either the current editor doesn't seem to be spending time or there isn't an editor?
UNPAID? UNPAID? blah, blah, blah.... There are suggestions that corrupt editors makes over $200,000/year by their volunteer work.
Oh really - where are these suggestions? Or this just another of your anti DMOZ rants? Or is it that you were an ODP editor who was kicked out for corruption and listing you own sites ahead of others?
Not every one sells DMOZ information for small change, like you. Some are smart enough to make real money out of their "Volunteer" work.
