lol. Well you have read it right. Yahoo is officially not a search company anymore. (not to mention I'm using too many quotes for this thread) So for your latest dose of Yahoo Search news, here's the blog post from Sashi Seth, SVP of Yahoo! Search Products. Here's the actual post link: http://www.ysearchblog.com/2010/08/...rganic-search-back-end-to-microsoft-platform/ Now one has to wonder how things are going to be in Yahoo! Since Microsoft is going to be behind almost everything in terms of search - it's highly possible that all yahoo search from now on will be powered by Bing (not to mention that if you search from Yahoo, you might be redirected to a Bing search result! XD) How will things be for Yahoo SEOers? PS: The funny thing is that I found this news from Matt Cutts tweet post. XD
I thought some yahoo search results looked awfully familiar to bings results. Neither were as good as google's results, but I thought yahoo did a little bit better job than bing with search results. Maybe some other or new search engine will take advantage of this and gain popularity. Probably not, but wishful thinking I guess.
Are you pertaining to Facebook perhaps? lol. Well it's quite sad that Microsoft got Yahoo first than Google. It would be more fun if Google got to Yahoo first and they'll eventually eat Bing unless they come up with something so wicked that Google hasn't thought of.
Actually disappointed by this, but on the other hand lets see what this develops into. Now visit yahoo and make a search, then at the search page look at the bottom: Powered By Bing
Yahoo Search powered by other companies is not new in Yahoo world. They're powered by Inktomi before, switched to Google until 2004 and later became independent. IMO, I still prefer for Yahoo to be 100% independent on their search but I'm sure Yahoo have better marketing plan with the new collaboration with Microsoft. - Dynashox -
Even though I never used it, I will miss Yahoo. I like having options... It's like having three gas stations, and now one has closed. I just hope another doesn't close and leave me with only one, no matter how good their gas is. Yahoo. RIP.
I think it's the other way around. Google has more power and so Yahoo is finished as a search engine. Yahoo lost that battle years ago, it's just been very slow in admitting it.
Well it is quite sad and I don't want Yahoo site explorer to go down as well. I love that tool and has been very useful. Well as for dying search engines, new SEs tend to come out anyway and Facebook seems to be ringing to much rumors about being a potential SE one day.
I'm really hoping Facebook does decide to create a search engine. I really think this is the logical next step for them.
it really is sad knowing that yahoo search would be gone.. since most of us used this tool and is helpful to us.. though, it is interesting to see if facebook will really create and launch a search engine.. hhmmm
Like dynashox said, Yahoo's search has been toast for a long time. Like it or not, in the English speaking world we are down to 2 search engines and some small pretenders. I can remember many search engines (Infoseek, Altavista, Hotbot) that have come and gone, before there was a Google and back when Yahoo was a directory, not a search engine.
Yeah, that would be a real pain if it did. ...Lycos, Magellan - there were so many of them and Google was better than all of them. Google is going to be number one until someone comes up with a better search engine, so far nobody has.
A shame to see a legacy of the internet become a shell of its former self. Hopefully Bing can improve its search to actually produce better results so it can give Google a run.
