One click installation of themes and plugins from an online repository. You don't have to upload anything.
Multiple Sidebars. You decide what goes in which sidebar.

 

Hosted or on your own server?

 

Ya serendipity is good, I considered it when I was starting my blog. But later I decided wordpress. This is my review when someone start a blog.

 

Thanks for all the replies, My Requirements and limitations are

1) I can't manage scripts and coding but can do small tweaking.
2) I do not have my own server so want a free hosting service.

But I am not sure whether blogspot is a good idea for long term. I have also started a thread "Is Blogspot good for serious and long term blogging?"

If you never plan to put advertising on your hosted blog, go for Wordpress.

If you want to put advertising on it, I'd suggest Blogspot. I never really used them but they seem to be one of, if not the most popular hosted blog service available.

 

I recently wrote one article on why blogspot will die soon. Can I put a link to the article at WMW (it is available under community building forum)?

The biggest factor is "no community involvement" for blogspot development. They think they can make the things perfect. "Community vs experts", I will always bet my money on community and thats wordpress. I myself had done some plugins for wordpress.

Blogspot is good for phase 1 of blogging as it is simple to start with but not good for second phase which needs advance integration with other products (some will be non-google). Blog is 75% about content and blogger but rest 25% can make some big change. 25% is about integration and promotion.

I have done some good work with adsense optimization and I think "adsense deluxe plugin for wordpress" works the best.

The problem with wordpress is that it was never accepted as a platform. I have already made the code open source where you can create multi blogs using wordpress as platform (one installation but multi blogs). If I have the permission I can put the link to the complete article.

The OP was asking about hosted blogging. Adsense is prohibited at the hosted blog site wordpress.com. Any advertising of any way, shape or form is not allowed there. That is what I was talking about. The hosted Wordpress. That is why I suggested Blogger as a hosted blog. They do allow adsense and/or other advertising.

It would be WordPress. Lots of plugins to choose from to enhance your site into SEO friendly website.

 

yea i also suggest wordpress as said lots of plugin to choose and it has many member communities so you could easily get help from.

 

if you are planning to go seriously into blogging, jump to hosted wordpress immediately.

sure you can jump through all the hoops at blogspot, wordpress.com, but all blogging roads lead to hosted wordpress

 

Hedir allows you to use adsense plugins and why do people want to stop it, why wordpress.com and blogsome is not allowing adsense? very strange, then I will suggest hedir for blogging, they offer complete flexibility.

 

certanly wordpress is a world apart, but it must be hosted, never the free subdomain of wordpress, before I use to have a blog with them http://visio.wordpress.com/ PR 4 I used that blog for over a year, updated once a day regularly, I admit I used to put nice links to my new web sites, one day I went to blog and the blog was gone:

I tried to contact them, nothing, not one email!

Since then I prefer to have to have complete control of my blogs.

BUT THE WORDPRESS SCRIP IS THE BEST!
