Best Open Source CMS for Directory Business?

    Hi,

    I've been searching a while now and was wondering what you guys might recommend as the best CMS for a directory business?

    The choices so far seem really scarce. I'm trying to avoid hiring a developer for this, but if I it comes to that, I guess I'll have to go that route.

    Do you mean a directory, or a business directory?

    The former I can recommend PHPLD

    And if you want a business directory with more flexibility then you have might need to get your hands dirty a bit and do some coding. We built this one in MODx Evolution CMS -> Window Tinting Directory. It took a bit of work but we now have something to suit our purpose perfectly.

    I'm not too sure how in-depth your looking to go, but if you want a simple directory that can take paid submissions, check out:

    Its a wordpress theme which means you can utilise all existing wordpress plugins and widgets to expand the site...

    When you say "CMS" I assume that means you want a directory that will allow you to publish content in a directory format. phpLD very much does this, allowing you to publish articles or links, and even change or edit the fields for the links so you can customize it to fit your needs. Here is a video about link types that might further clarify.
