A couple of days ago I was looking at my Google Places account, and noticed a new feature where you can add a highlighted link for 25.00 a month. You also have the choice of highlighting videos and photos.

I signed up fpr it, and the click throughs are way up.

Check it out by doing this search in Google (You will see how it stands out):

I can see only the map.. That's looks more like a standard local business listing.

Edit : Aha!! you mean that yellow bullet with "visit our website"? That's cool I must say.

Yeah i'vetried this too and at the moment clicks are coming through thick and fast, butlike any advertising medium it probably won't last long as more people catch on and as the price increases

If I were Google, I would give a special bonus to staff whom has originated this idea. This could help them make a huge not less than Adwords could do in a long term.

If I were advertisers, I would use them but a bit of negative attitude in mind, a bit of dislike how Google interact too greedy in this case. Isn't it should be free like their other products? Even this feature were made by commercial oriented but I disagree by get the charge on this one anyway.

I've been following local for a long time and Google maps (now google places) for a couple of years. I have several local small businesses.

Reports on the use of TAGS, (which is what Google calls that yellow thing) are still early. They started in a few markets in the US and have spread around the entire country now. (not sure if it has spread around the globe yet).

Just put up my first tags. Will report results as I see them.

Of the businesses visits on the maps records vary depending on a lot of factors including:

is the business showing as a

    onemap
    in a 3 pac
    in a 7 pac

Is it listed first, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or so on.

The tags are new. I guess if everyone in a map is using them they may become less effective and less visable. That will take time though.

If the local business is of any size at all, the $25/month cost is amazingly nominal. OTOH, I have no doubt if they are popular Google will raise the price.

It currently shows in a 7 pack from some good keyword searches, and it really sticks out because the other 6 don't use it (yet). The car business is 2 years behind..so we will ride this puppy out!

I knew it was just a matter of time till Google will try and make money with the maps. Free local listings for businesses, yeah right! like that was normal. What next? premium Google account, gmail, whoever thinks it will stop there is just dreaming.
Soon it will be all crowded, the only difference will be -all of you putting monthly fees in their packets in return for whats was once free.
SXperm guess who will pay for those bonuses?

Seems like it could be a nice opportunity for some extra traffic at a descent price. Wonder how long it will be a fixed rate of $25 for though, if it really takes off pricing may end up being based on other factors.
