Just out of curiosity, there are quite a few golfers on the board so I'd like to see how many actively take lessons. I have gotten into them myself big time and never realized how much of a difference they make. I had gone 10 years without a single lesson and now wish I hadn't. So are you the kind of person that just plays or do you take a lesson once in a while?
I don't take lessons now but between the ages of 13-17 I used to go to some private school that had a golf camp during the summer holidays. The course was run by Alex Hay and there were various pro players involved such as Seve, Faldo and a few other less-known ones. It certainly did me good as I was playing off 2 by the time I finished, just wish I'd persevered with it, but I got into the national team for a martial art and never had time to do both after that.
, Thats extraordinary! I certainly haven't gotten to that point but I have shaved quite a few strokes off.
It certainly helped to be young, dedicated and have plenty of time - my Dad has been a member of his club for 40 years so the owner always let me go round at off-peak times for free which helped immensely. Now I only play maybe 5-6 times a year and am lucky to go round in less than 90
I took lessons when I was 7-8, but nothing since then. I voted no, but I would like to go get some lessons before I go back out. I've got two courses fairly close to my house and another few around town here... just haven't been in awhile.
Lol..Someone anonymously voted Golf is for Losers but didn't show their face Are you afraid of us Golfers. We certainly are a mean bunch
Just did 9 holes today, ohh.. need more lessons! My only handicap is I played Baseball for many years this influences my swing, it's really hard to stay in the golf swing.
Its close to Field Hockey. You can pick up the ball but you have to either bounce it on the ground, your foot, or your stick every three paces. Plus there is a regular goal and another goal (looks like a football field goal). THe soccor style goal is worth more points. I believe its the fastest field game in the world.
This is my team http://meath.gaa.ie/home.htm You root for the team where you live...You would never root for another county or risk being stoned. Of course I wasn't born in Ireland so although I am currently living in Dublin, I'm building a house in Meath so its alright to root for them. Make Sense?
I do not subscribe to coaching services. All my buddies who engage a coach or two had their swing entirely changed. Some actually do more harm than good. I would rather have my mistakes correct while at the driving range rather than spend top dollars for coaching. That explains why I'm still a 24 handicapper...
That sounds crazy, but fun... I've never heard of it before... found a few sites that kind of explain it. This one explains skills/moves but the videos don't seem to work. I couldn't find any videos, but I did find that there is at least one league in the US.
My first few lessons added strokes to my game bacause I was doing Everything wrong. Basically I was then compensating by doing other things wrong. Now everything is getting fixed one thing at a time and slowly I am getting better. I am now way better than when I started and the potential has increased a lot. I used to think like you do and actually considered stopping them when my game completely went in the tank but now I keep getting better every week. Before that I spent 10 years at the same handicap - around a 25
