How long does it take for DNS to update?
I updated my DNS for my domain yesterday afternoon, and I'm wondering how long is normal before it finishes doing whatever it's doing?

Although DNS updates for .com domain names have become faster since then,
it still doesn't change the possibility it could take up to 48 or even 72 hours. Some "catch on" pretty quick, others can take a while. The fastest I've seen happen so far was 20 seconds flat, as in I timed it. ![]() Same as always: clear cache, make sure domain name has the correct DNS in WHOIS, DNS records (A-records, MX, etc.) are configured properly, etc. |

This my experience also. And that is the only good thing I have to say about registrfly. Godaddy is sloooooooooow.

It should never take more than 48 hours.
I have most of my domains with goDaddy and it usually takes 7-10 minutes for the nameservers to update...... Regards, Adrian |

It depends... for yourself, because your own isp caches dns querys, you will find if you have gone to a page, and your isp has cached the dns, you will have to wait till the zone file updates at your isp, however if it a fresh lookup, your isp will contact the root server for the zone and get the new dns straight away

If you're in a rush for it to change for your own use - you can always add the new ip to your hosts file.
