Hello guys, Today i opened a hosting account on Hostgator with HOUSTON coupon. AFter 3 hours they need driving license or Passport for verification. Anyways, i sent the Passport Scan (2MB ) and i got this reply What the hell. I will send this thread's link via reply Feel free to say your opinions SO if you do not have a driving license you can not open a Hostgator account. Pretty cheap company in my opinion. Regards
Ask them what the discrepancies are that make your passport not valid verification and/or what other government photo ID they would accept. There's usually an easy solution for things like this.
....and why would you not just send them your driver's license? Are you some sort of British special agent? Or will it simply reinforce their claims on these 'discrepancies'? Sounds like a mountain out of a mole hill. or a storm in a tea cup. Some battles are not worth fighting. No offense.
Why should i send them my driving license? Everyone does not have a driving license. I am not going to drive with their Mom so Passport must be fine Yep you are not. I already gave up. Just pasting the e-mail
Hi, Why deal with a host in that way I'm curious-- Is the deal that good that it's worth an hour of your time working it? Best Wishes, Jim
In Florida we have drivers licenses, and we have state ID cards. Both have the same identifying information about you but one certifies you're capable of driving. Do you guys not have the same sort of thing where you live ? I really don't see why anyone would have a problem sending a copy of an ID card if they had no problems sending in a passport. Maybe you can explain why you don't want to do this ? If you have trust issues, why are you even considering using them as a hosting provider in the first place ?
If he's British (as the 3rd post suggests) photographic ID is not a requirement in the UK for British citizens. There is no compulsory ID system in the UK and it's only recently that new drivers licences have had photographs on them. My driving licence is still just a piece of flimsy paper with my name, address, signature, and list of vehicles I can legally drive. Until recently passports have been the only official document that required a photograph and I hope it stays that way.
IMO passport should be more then sufficient document for any cross verification process. It's a valid identity which is accepted worldwide.
just ask for refund and go with other companies like justhost, hostpapa etc... pm me for rebate offer
I also face this problem last time when i wanted to renew my hosting for another 365 days. They really make my life harder. Now i switch to other company already.
Pretty crazy. I can tell you TVC.Net doesn't play those game (nicest people on the planet actually). Best Wishes, Jim
HAH I just saw that billboard outside of town. In my experience with hostgator, and I have used them for awhile, I have not had to scan in any kind of authentication. What plan did you buy?
no but you must be one with that attitude of yours @rootbinbash I opened an account with them, they asked for drivers license, I scanned and sent it to them, but they're not worth it just find another host, there are many out there and tell them to go eat dirt for wasting your time
Good thing I only purchase good for one month worth $0.01 of Baby Package which I used a coupon code. I have the same issue. HostGator is a cheater! Stay away from this crap! Don't be a fool to us, we are victims here! Refund us HostGator, even with just $0.01.
oh they never asked a proof from me for same baby package one month ago No problems at all Good host I am sorry if you faced any problems with them No hard feelings Regards Alex
You're just lucky dude. I think only "chosen ones" like you are no need for some "B@#%$&^!" driver's license verifications.
Hostgator is awesome, Ive used them for a little under a year, I never had to give any form of ID when i signed up for them, just a valid credit card... address, etc... Their support is 24/7 and Ive always had any issues resolved really quickly. I am on their biz package for $15 a month and get unlimited anything (well as far as shared hosting goes)... I love them so far... and theyre a GREEN host... too
